Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Joseph Stalin's real name is Iossif Stalin, Andriy is really Andrei and so on

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Stalin's full name was : DJOUGACHVILI Iossif Vissarionovitch.

=] that's cute.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Cyrillic won't display on these boards, but for those of you who deal in cold hard facts - the official transliteration of her name is 'Yulya'.

That said Russian is an entirely different script, the transliteration of it is generally only a given equivilant as to the sound. There is an international standard but it's commonly diregarded. I.e. nothing is really more correct than anything else. But naturally the common translation would be Julia.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Umm Yulia said it was okay to spell Julia as her name too.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Hey her name is not Julia, even Yulia!! If you want to tell her real name, you should speek about her cyrilik name! And her REAL name is in cyrilik!! So you could write it "Iulia" with our later. So no reason to get crazy.

And how do you expect people to translate words or name from another alphabets?! It's difficult and therefore your way of thinking is wrong.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

I can read cyrillic. there's no need to make such a big deal over the difference. I think closest spelling would be Yulya. it's 3 letters.
(unfortunately,cyrillic won't show up)

The first letter which is a 'yu' sound. The second is a L sound. the 3rd, is a ya sound.

so.. Yulya!

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

my name Vyacheslav. but i get Vija or Vja for common name.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

It doesn't matter how you spell her name :) My name is Elena and I am russian. People spell my name is different ways, like Ielena, Jelena, Yelena, Helena and Helen, but I use Leni as my name!

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

gosh banini you sound like every catholic/christian i've ever met!!!!!!!!!

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

what would my name Sandra be in cyrilic(sp)i know that my name is very common in russia and other parts of europe(wait russia is in asiadamn i need to go back to school)and yes her name is Yulya but the english translation is julia so it's ok..like the russian name Sasha which in english is Alexander if i'm not mistaken.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Russia is part of Eastern Europe not Asia.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Russia is part of Europe and Asia :)

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

Bingo. I hate it when people claim all of Russia is in either Europe or Asia. West of the Ural mountain range is considered Eastern Europe. That means Moscow is in Europe.

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

russia is a eurasian nation meaning 1c84it coveres both europe and asia.
russia makes up 40% of europe and 100% of northern asia
do some research and look at a damn map

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

I think if she really had a problem with it should would say something, don't you? It's not a big deal. The English translation of her name is Julia, so naturally in the UK and the US, it's usually Julia or Yulia..

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

MadamTampini is 100% right.

Someone here said her first name consists of 3 letter in cyrillic. On the German Wikipedia they have written it with 4 letters. According to the article on about Cyrillic on the German Wiki the first letter is transliterated as "ju". But in the article about Cyrillic on the English Wikipedia they have transliterated the same letter instead of "ju" as "yu".

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

So, I couldn't help but do a bit of research. I looked it up on their official website.

There it's written with 3 letters. The literal transliteration is: Yulya Olegovna Volkova

Re: THATS NOT HER NAME!

i feel the same way! i hate when people say Julia, its too Americanized and her name is too unique to be changed like that. i like saying Yulia and i know die-hard fans like to use Yulya cuz thats how her name is really pronounced
