Patrice O'Neal : he is not funny live

I saw him live in Ann Arbor. He was not funny at all. He was deeply insulting directly to many people including me and my date. We had to go. Many people walked out. He is baddont go to his live performances.he is very bad.

When someone calls you names for no reason, it is not funny. He may have some funny material but he is not using it.

He reminds me of a bully. He needs to control the situation and feel that everybody bows to him.

The truth is that is a very rude to the people that pay to go and see him without having a genuine sense of humor

Jim Norton is probably Patrice's biggest ass licker of all time. I'm a Jim Norton fan but I call people like I see them. Norton's funny as hell but obviously he's not good at recognizing talent in others.

I know you weren't singling me out, but you did say PEOPLE IN GENERAL must not have a sense of humor if they think he sucks.
And truth be told-Patrice's cursing every other word doesn't "offend" me, it bores the everloving crap out of me and I HAVE watched his standup on youtube. AND I've heard him on Opie and Anthony many times.
A few F bombs here and there are ok. With him, it's every other word and he does it because let's face it-he has little else except recycled jokes that I've heard all my life by everybody else. And I'm gonna say it again-he messes with people in the crowd because he has little to no material of his own to actually make people laugh.
Now, as far as the F & S bombs, no, they don't "offend" me, is that what you think?
They bore me and put me to sleep because he really thinks it makes him "Raw" and "cutting edge" instead of finding actual hilarious and outrageous things to talk about. THAT actually takes effort and talent.
And to be honest he probably laughs at his audience that they pay money to watch someone who puts such little effort into their act.
Jim Norton drops a few bombs here and there but IT'S NOT HIS WHOLE DAMN SHOW. He actually thinks of hilarious topics and things to talk about.
People stopped going to see Andrew Dice Clay back in the day because he started doing the exact same thing Patrice does-F bomb, F bomb, S bomb, S bomb, weak joke, F bomb, F bomb, F bomb weak joke.
That's ok, we'll see where Patrice is five years from now.
Richard Pryor back in the day was very wild and dropped alot of bombs but HE also made the effort to talk about real things that were funny as hell and wild.

The truth about O & A is, I became a fan of theirs in 2001.
And I was a fan because I thought Anthony was the funniest, wildest guy I've ever heard. Their stunts were amazing, they didn't drop bombs constantly because they had the talent that (mostly Anthony) had was amazing. Anthony imitated ANYONE perfectly, they told lots of stories that were so damn funny I used to drive off the road I'd be laughing so hard.
Fast forward to 2010.
Now, I don't even find Anthony funny anymore and age is no excuse. I try to listen to them and I usually fall asleep because Opie is always whining about "poor me, poor me", always whining about management, he's turned into a punk ass little bitch. Andsorry to bring this up again, but his F bombs are ridiculous. The reason it pisses me off is becauuse he does it on purpose to say, "Listen to us because we're RAW!! We're cutting edge!!"
I actually emailed Opie and told him instead of dropping F and S bombs and whining like a bitch, how about being funny and showing some excitement??
Well, not much has changed, has it?
Fine Opie-don't listen to me. Op5b4ie even sais from time to time, "The wild and outrageous stuff we did in the past we've moved on from."
Um, WHY??
Even when thhey've done the Jocktober stunts, I hear Opie go, "Ok, enough of this, I don't wanna do this anymore."
And anthony will be like, "why??"
"I just don't wanna do this anymore today, let's move on."
Move on to what, Opie? More of your whining like a hoe?
And even Anthony has lost talent.
A few times I had them on in the car and my buddy would be like, "Jesus, I haven't laughed once."
So actually, I guess it doesn't matter if Patrice is gonna be on their show forever because I'm dropping my "Best of XM" from my Sirius package.
BTW, if you wanna see what I mean by how funny Anthony used to be about 9 years ago or so, do a search on youtube of "Opie and Anthony Louie Anderson". There's a clip called "louie Anderson blackmailed" too.
Those were the days. then compare that to the two of them now.

I still find them hilarious. Even moreso than before. I literally grew up listening to them since i was 13 and im 24 now. Im from Washington DC but Ron and Fez and Opie and Anthony were broadcasted down to 106.7 near me on WJFK.
All in all i think the show has a much smoother format and they still get impressive guests. I think they have the best/funniest staff theyve ever had (primetime sam roberts and Danny/Erock etc etc), and I love that theyre uncensored now.
And yeah they do cuss a lot but when Opie says theyve moved on from being "shock jocks" i think he means that they generally dont do the crazy stunts or seem as rebellious (maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn!) as they used to be. I also think Norton and Patrice have matured and have gotten better at their craft as comedians. A lot of the regular callers/guests are hysterical too=Kevin Smith, Joe Rogan, Stanhope, all the crazy trucker callers, and even guests like Michio Kaku i always look forward to hearing. I might be biased to the show as ive been listening for a long time, but i still think theyre going strong and id rather listen to them than music (unless theyre talking sports, as im generally not a sports fan).

I will agree that there were a few times where i've gotten sick of Ope/Ant complaining about management as it can get repetitive/whiny but at the time when they were doing that a lot theyre contract was on the line.

It is sad that he passed away, because from what I am hearing is that he is very funny live. An oppourtunity to see him do his comedy routine would have been nice to see.

I saw him live years ago before he was really known at all. All I really remember is that he made fun of everyone until he just about cleared the room. It was one of the best performances ever. Absolutely brilliant. He's a legend to me.

This is what I dont get. Comedy is supposed to be funny. I dont like it when comedians start talking about people in the audience unless it's completely justified. I can see talking about hecklers and rude people. But picking on someone who is paying to be entertained is bad form. Especially when its the whole act. Patrice can be funny but most of his act is mean, cause he dont let up. He will talk about someone for like 7 minutes. I stopped going to see him because I dont wanna hear that.

You know, I thought IMDb would censor more of what I said, which is why16d0 I spaced out the swear phrases. Apparently it was all non-offensive enough, but it made my post look more aggressively angry. Read the post as if the speaker was laughing. When I used the phrase "I could give a god damn" it's because I truly could. I don't have time to filter my conversation style posting (especially, although no one online can see, when I post on this website I am always being interrupted by twenty different people and I leave out chunks of what I'm thinking. For example, I applied an edit that added a sentence at the end, adds some clarity to my point).

The OP is part of the reason why Patrice was the funniest person to see live ever. He never once pandered, he cut to the quick, and he wasn't afraid to walk a crowd. His ability to make people uncomfortable and exploit that for laughs was peerless.

I see a lot of comedy, he was by far my favorite live act, and I don't think anything he ever recorded quite captured just how good he was live in a club.

I have to completely disagree with the original poster, the man is hilarious! In fact, last time I saw him his delivery was dead-on!
