The Bionic Woman : Another observation

Another observation

Rewatching the show right now. I'm noticing that Jaime was chloroform-ed A LOT. In fact it happens so often she probably should have had brain damage.

It's so funny how often it happens.

Remember the magic words: "Please", "Thank you" and "Step off bitch!"

Re: Another observation

I think it's just a plot contrivance. The writers get a little lazy and can't think of an original way to knock out a bionic woman. Just to speed the story along without some kind of epic struggle, they just fall back on the old reliable chloroform plot device. Sort of begs the question, shouldn't Jaime have heard someone sneaking up on her from behind to chloroform her so often?

Re: Another observation

Oh it's totally a plot contrivance. It's crazy how often it happens. Plus if you start reading about the effects of repeated exposure to chloroform, you'll see Jaime probably should have had brain damage for sure!

And the hearing thing stared to bug me too. It must be selective and voluntary. Meaning she could turn it on and turn it off. I watched one episode where she said she heard a heartbeat coming from inside a satellite. This made me ask, "Well how the hell do you know it's coming from the satellite and not the guy standing next to you?"

Having that kind of hearing would drive you mad if you couldn't turn it off.

Re: Another observation

My point is they give the ear to the woman
Need I say more?

Re: Another observation

The chloroform thing was used on a lot of shows in the 70's. I remember it happening on Wonder Woman and Charlie's Angels too. I like to assume that Jaime can pin point exactly where the sound is coming from with her bionic ear.

Re: Another observation

Yeah, and Steve got knocked out a lot, too. I think he was chloroformed a couple of times, but usually he was hit on the head. I know Jaime was knocked out that way sometimes, too, but I think viewers (especially back then) didn't like it when a woman was hit, so for her the writers would use chloroform- less violent, I guess.

Re: Another observation

Good point on the audiences not liking to see a woman hit. That makes sense I guess. I also guess they had to use something against these bionic people because they couldn't apprehend them on their own or they'd get their butts kicked so they needed some kind of weakness and chloroform must have been it.

Der pork und beans mit sauerkrauten!

Re: Another observation

I agree. Audiences back then did not like seeing women get hit.

I also agree with the poster who said having that type of hearing would drive you mad. I once had a device that amplified outdoor sounds. I used it only one time. I did not realize how many jet planes went over during the day. I could also plainly hear cars and trucks on the Interstate that was several miles away. After about an hour it all gets very tiresome especially when someones rooster that is a mile away is compelled to crow all day long.

Re: Another observation

I believe that Jaime was able to adjust the strength of her bionic ear, just as Austin was able to control his bionic eye. I guess moving her hair out of the way activates it - lol.

lol I've wondered about that too. The hair must shield her ear from all the maddening sounds she could probably hear. Surely there was an "on switch" near her ear or something because it surely would drive one crazy.

I'm worried that my guardian angel is a crack head

Re: Another observation

In the old "Batman" series, Batman was never allowed to hit any of his female enemies, because male violence against women was not acceptable on TV back then. Not even against the bad girls like Catwoman. That's probably why Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman were always getting chloroformed.

Don't forget that Jaime also took a few doses of that fembot knock out spray as well.
