Dallas : Vanessa Beaumont

Vanessa Beaumont

Why did JR say Vanessa was the only woman he ever loved when up until then her name had never been mentioned at all? I never really understood any of that. Also there wasn't any chemistry between Vanessa and JR.

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

Vanessa Beaumont was just a reincarnation of Rebecca Wentworth.

How so? And show your work.

To the OP, the whole Vanessa being the love of J.R.'s life seemed like retconned B.S. The writers were running out of storyline. An illegitimate child seemed apropos for J.R., but the retconned B.S., not so much. In season 1, Julie Grey was the one who got away while Sue Ellen was the one he married. Granted J.R. was around 30 when he met a 19ish Sue Ellen, so he surely had previous romances before her, but Vanessa did not seem like J.R.'s cup of tea, at all.

Yes, she was far too boring and prissy for JR.

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

Too bad they killed off Julie Grey - That would have made more sense as JR's old flame & James has the son who Julie kept it a secret...

I love Debi Sue Voorhees:

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

Agreed. JR had good chemistry with Julie Grey too.

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

The very first time they show Vanessa, I thought it was Julie - somehow not killed after all and recovered over in Europe.

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

Oh

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

The deal with Vanessa was supposed to be that she was J.R.'s first love and due to him losing her, it jaded him to love and led to him being the womanizer he became. No other woman could measure up to Vanessa. In terms of the show, it was a way to make J.R. more sympathetic to the viewer, that he did have a heart and things could have turned out a lot differently for him.

Re: Vanessa Beaumont

She looked liked a rip-off Sue Ellen
