Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

Anyone else notice that Donna's character is usually involved in ethical/moral type storylines where she often has to state opinions that wouldn't normally be expected? Almost as if they come from a Christian point of view (Susan Howard's influence perhaps??).. For example:
1. Tokapa: strongly wants to preserve the land.
2. Sam Culver's book: despite hurting Miss Eliie and newly minted (probably sensitive?) Ewing Ray, her own husband, she thinks it's the "right thing to do" to expose Jock's dirty dealings.
3. Edgar Randolph: he is a child molester sort of but she makes it all go away by saying "he was a young man".. OK..
4. The anti abortion storyline/keeping a baby with Down's Syndrome.

Interesting how these are played out in a more serious, earthy tone than the rest of the series.. Conservative almost

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

I thought her writing the book was a big mistake and she should have never considered it for obvious of reasons. I am shocked she defend Randolph, had Donna been a parent at the time that happened maybe her reaction would have been different. I think she was just feel sorry for him because JR black mailed him and he tried to kill himself etc...
But Donna is one of my fave characters. She isn't afraid to stand up to JR which is something I always liked about Donna.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

One of my favorite storylines of the series, and one that involved Donna in a moral dilemma, was the battle over Ewing Oil from Jock's will (season 6). Donna was on the Texas Energy Commission, but was drawn into the battle regarding J.R.'s variance. She was unwillingly drawn into the fight between J.R. and Bobby.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

Donna is one of the most substantive characters on the show, and they gave her storylines which suited the character. She would have been out-of-place in the types of stories they gave Pam (Bobby gives her an aerobics studio) or Lucy (Lucy becomes Miss Short Dallas).

Re: Donna often seems involved in 'moral' type storylines??

She and Ray coping with the Down syndrome baby and then the miscarriage was my favorite.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

I had no sympathy for Edgar Randolph. Were we supposed to feel sorry for him? Donna should have stayed out of it after she found out. Then that freak tries to shoot down JR in the middle of town, and his wife blames JR. This guy had issues.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

Yep, high horse, holier than thou, Donna.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

That was my problem with many of the characters in the series, they were hypocrites as well as holier than thou.

Ellie was right to be angry at her for bringing up that dirt on Jock. What possible purpose would it bring to go a woman who is still mourning her husband with this stuff? Its not something the public needs to know if true. And as for Edgar Randolph, I agree he deserved no sympathy.

Re: Donna often seems involved in "moral" type storylines??

I agree the thing with the book was in bad taste. I was surprised Donna would be that insensitive tbh. Seemed out of character for her to even consider that..
