The Littlest Hobo : Just saw Boy on wheels with Mike Myers!

Just saw Boy on wheels with Mike Myers!

They repeat the Littlest Hobo here and I just saw the episode "Boy on Wheels" guest starring Mike "Austin Powers" Myers. Its an episode when Hobo helps a handicapped boy on wheels by befriending him and helping him enter a frisbee contest. His father is against it because he hates dogs. The reason he hates dogs is that the father was involved in a car crash that killed the wife and handicapped the kid that everyone thnks was due to speeding. However, we see in flashback the father drove off the road to avoid hitting a stray dog that looked like - Hobo! Clarence Williams III (Link from Mod Squad)is the kid's helper. Anyways, the dad is against it and Hobo until the Kid loses control of his wheelchair and is about to get run over in the highway and Hobo dashingly jumps across and knocks the kid over and saves his life! The Dad then lets his Kid enter the (boy and dog) frisbee contest and gets over his prejudice against dogs! In the contest, due to the gritty realism of the series, the Kid doesn't win a prize but they give him a prize for being crippled because everyone feels sorry for him. He doesn't win because a 14 year old Mike Myers wins the contest as his frisbee rival. And some hippy girl comes second. The father is happy, everyone's happy and they think that Hobo will come home with them, but at the last second he turns around and walks down the road in true Hobo style. However, as the father has now got over his dog prejudice, he tells his son they can get a dog from the pound. Anyways, typical hobo episode.
The thing about Mike Myers is that he was damn skinny and not fat. Also, he was second billing. And he was completely unfunny. Must have been one of hsio first jobs.Looks like it took 20 years ofr his second. WIsh he'd talk more about his experinces on his show.

Re: Just saw Boy on wheels with Mike Myers!

Sounds like a classic episode (and the obvious high point of Mike Myer's career), I'd love to see it.

Another great icon of the 80's - the frisbee. This would make a great piece of film : boy in wheelchair throws frisbee, littlest hobo jumps in slow-mo and catches it mid-flight, pause for a second, and then fall gracefully back to earth.

Re: Just saw Boy on wheels with Mike Myers!

The series was a starting point for a few nobodies who became household names, like Michael Ironside and Matt Craven. It was also a graveyard for has beens like DeForrest Kelly and Alan Hale Jr.
And it wasn't a typical episode, it was dreadful! The plot didn't seem to have direction, the flashbacks were lame, very little attention was given to the Hobo, because it was entirely focused on that guy whom I'm certain Lawerence Fishburn must have been studying very closely when he was preparing to play Morpheus. Fortunately, it can be forgiven for being a first season episode.
