Friday the 13th : which film in the series is the most "80s"

which film in the series is the most "80s"

when i say 80s i mean which is the most quintessential 80s. as in has the traditional 80s feel or vibe, with the most 80s fashion etc.

like most decades the early potion is usually dictated by the previous decade, like the early 90s typically has a very 80s vibe. i feel like the early friday films have a very late 70s grindhouse vibe.

ive always thought the most 80s film was the 6th, 7th or 8th. what are your thoughts and why?

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

Part 4 as it was released in 1984. When I think "quintessential 80s", I think "1984". It was a big year, after all, especially in terms of music (which impacted fashion).

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

The Final Chapter felt like Footloose
A New Beginning felt like Weird Science
Jason Lives felt like Three O Clock High
New Blood felt like Who's the Boss
Manhattan felt like House Party

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

The Final Chapter might have felt like Footloose. But the first movie had Kevin Bacon.

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

Indeed - but Crispin Glovers had the moves this time around

Who would you rather have on top of your automobile - Tawny Kitaen or Julie Carmen?

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

The New Blood. The original doesn't qualify because it was filmed in 1979 so it wasn't even the 80s yet. It would be impossible for it to represent a decade that hadn't even started. The New Blood had the quintessential 80s fashion like blue jean jackets and stonewashed jeans (Nick, Tina, Michael's girlfriend), oversized neon clothing with big jewelry (Robin), big hair and oversized belts (Maddy, Mrs. Sheppard), and basically everything about Sandra. Then there are the 80s rock songs the kids play along with the synthesized pop. Some of the kids are wealthy and Russell was clearly a yuppie, which was a classification started in the 80s with the rampant capitalism of the Reagan era. It was filmed in that soft look prevalent in so many TV series of the era like Dynasty. Just many elements to it are so 80s.

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

I would agree about Part VII. Even the black characters are wearing pastels and come across as yuppies.

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

In my opinion, the most '80s of the franchise were "The Final Chapter", "A New Beginning", and "Jason Lives". Then again, these took place during the height of the 1980's. This is a time period where Cyndi Lauper, Prince, and Madonna were topping the charts. In fact, the 1980's that everyone either ridicules or remembers being the best of times (with leg warmers, crimped hair, multi-colored hair, leather and lace, acid wash jeans, open fingered glove on one hand, etc.) lasted from 1983 to 1987. Don't get me wrong, 1988 and 1989 were still the '80s and had '80s vibes, they were just less intense.

Everyone wore pastels in the late 1980s. That trend didn't stop until about 1993/1994. I remember my uncle Martin had a pair of orange pastel jeans in like 1989/1990. That was the style back then, it didn't matter what your race was. Similar to how women now can shave one half of their head and keep the other half normal. You see women of all races doing that because it's the "in" thing to do.

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

i agree with all of your points, but much of that was also in parts 5.6 and 8. in part 5 you had the multi colored hair girl doing the robot to 80s music with madonna posters on the wall. you had the 2 leather biker lookin guys who some say were gay. plus the whole delinquent teenager camp story, which was a bit trope of the 80s "delinquent teen". part 6 u had all of the rock music and alice cooper's song part 8 had the most 80s opening credits and the nyc element i found very 80s

i dont know part 7 is a good candidate though. part 7 is the one that seems the most claustrophobic to me. the set seems VERY small. 2 cabins and a bit of woods beside them, there's no scenes in town or anywhere else basically. very few shots of the lake besides the opening and closing scenes. i feel like the budget of 7 went entirely to the special effects required for tina's powers and because of that feels like they filmed everything in one tiny area. even the scenes in the woods it feels like theyre running around in one small wooded area trying to make it look like a bigger space.

Um.... I did say that Part V was the most '80s and had the most 1980s vibe of them all IMHO. Part V is known as "A New Beginning".

Did you read it? LOL

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

i dont know why you're being sassy, my comment was posted days before yours, it wasnt in response to your comment it was in response to the other guy's learn how to use imdb

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

It was right under mine instead of in response to his, meaning that I thought it was directed to me. Learn how to use IMDB and form sentences. : P

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

1. VIII: Jason Goes to Manhattan: Wardrobe, lingo, hairstyles, and product placement in the movie. Yet, oddly, it's most modern F13th movie.

2. VI: Jason Lives: Alice Cooper soundtrack, wardrobe, lingo, post-modern/self-referential attitude, and it was simply a more modern F13th movie, before that it seemed like most Friday films took place in the 70s.

3. V: A New Beginning: Hairstyle, wardrobe,

4. VII: The New Blood

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

You know, I was going to go to The Final Chapter but I think you have convinced me otherwise!

Re: which film in the series is the most '80s'

The first four

Re: which film in the series is the most "80s"

To me the first 2 had a more 70s feel, part 3 was kind of a bridge from 70s to 80s. parts 4,5,6, and 7 all totally 80s. Part 8 was similar to part 3 as it was a bridge from 80s to 90s. Now to choose the most 80s between 4,5,6 and 7. Always disregard part 5, so down to 4,6, and 7. 4 did have Corey Feldman, hard to get much more 80s in actors than him. But part 6 had Alice Cooper. 7 was kind of forgettable. So now to choose between 4 and 6, I have not seen them forever so for now I am going to keep them as a toss up until I watch them again.
