The Fog : What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

The basic premise of the movies is that Blake and his comrades are murdered and come back on the centenary of the town to seek revenge on six of the townspeople to make amends for the same number of sailors (Blake and his five men) killed 100 years ago.

Well and good.

However, it still begs the question as follows:

What would a bunch of dead guys want, need, or in fact do with Father Malone's gold once they had it?

Please post with any interesting thoughts.

Cheers for now.

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

I'd guess it was down to the principle. They can physically take the gold back to wherever they came from - it becomes one with them when they grab it at the end and it sort of lights up.

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

They want to kill six because that was the number of conspirators who led them to their deaths a century earlier, not the number of Blake's crew (which was obviously much larger). The ghosts can't kill the original conspirators now, but they can still kill six inhabitants of Antonio Bay who are, literally or symbolically, descendants of the town's murderous founders.

The gold cross plotline doesn't make a lot of sense logically, but it's more a symbolic thing about greed, retribution and atonement as Father Malone tries to rectify the wrongs committed by his ancestors. Unfortunately, the ghosts still want their pound of flesh as well. It's like the ghosts coming back on the 100th anniversary of the town. There's no logical reason for it since all the men who killed them are already dead themselves, but it makes it more of a traditional ghost story by shrouding it in this local legend (which most haunted places have).

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

It was theirs

I'll be good I swear I'll never see a movie ever again.

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

They just took what was rightly theirs. Blake and his crew are as bad as those who killed them.

They want to go to Vegas.

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

"but by the loss of something they absolutely care about: GOLD!"

A small correction, if I may, Mr. Loomis: gold is not just something the catholic church cares about.. Its the ONLY thing it cares about!

Have a day lovely.

They wanted to melt it down and make it into a whole bunch of Trump buttons. They were members of the Dead Alt Right.

Re: What would a bunch of dead guys want with the gold?

Also, if the conspirators stole the gold to spend it on Antonio Bay (and they did) how did it become a huge cross and get behind the churchs wall (again, the very church they wanted to spend it on)?
