The Elephant Man : Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
Elephant man for me is definitely the saddest film I've ever seen. I'm ashamed to admit it but the only other film that gets me every time is ET , lol.
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
Many movies get me to cry. I don't think that It's a Wonderful Life has for a very long time. This does, and I can't imagine it not doing so, although I've only seen it a handful of time. Ghost does. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas did, but I've only seen it once I can't imagine sitting through it without sobbing.
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
The Elephant Man is pretty sad, but i don't think any movie comes close to Lilya 4 Ever in terms of sadness

Grave of the Fireflies.
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
I only saw it once and I was a teenager so maybe my view would be different now but I hated It's a Wonderful Life! It's one of those films that's supposed to have an uplifting message but just leaves me feeling utterly depressed! I don't say I don't think it's good, I only say that it made me feel really depressed so is certainly not a film that I'd put on the tear jerker list. Thus it's not a universal tearjerker
Hard to remember things that moved me the most, but I just saw this for the first time and cried A LOT! It is so sad! And not just at the end - at many points. John Hurt is utterly heartbreaking.
However the saddest film I've ever seen is definitely Truly, Madly, Deeply 'Course I'd put this in the list too, thus. The Elephant Man and also Cinema Paradiso. I have to be honest - I've done sobbing at a fair few films though that I can recall so maybe I'm not the person to ask.

I cannot agree more with your view on It's A Wonderful Life . barring the final 10 minutes of that movie, it is just a soul-crushing experience
About the original thread topic though, my addition to the list would be Jim Carrey's "Truman Show" where he first showcased his acting talent (in my opinion) and showed that he is more then just a rubber faced comedic genius. I found it difficult to hold back when he tries to swim away in the ultimate act of desperation and finds out that even then he LITERALLY ends up hitting a glass wall powerful stuff

Field of Dreams
Bang the Drum Slowly
Ghost
To Kill a Mockingbird
I know that's already and I could definitely go on.

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
Ugh, The Elephant Man! I was so young when I saw this film, I think maybe around 9 years old? I must be a drama queen because once the film ended, I grabbed a throw pillow from the couch, went to the bathroom to sit on the toilet and cried my eyes out while sobbing into the pillow. How sad is that?
Keep in mind, I'm a cry baby, so if I could have a top 25, that might have made it easier on me, but I'll try my best to pick 5.
Here are my top 5:
1) The Elephant Man (I was so angry at all the horrible people who ridiculed him)
2) Mask (Eric Stolz) (Reminded me a lot of The Elephant Man)
3) Radio Flyer (I wanted to save these boys)
4) Titanic (Mostly when they show all the poor people/kids who have no hope)
5) My Girl (Every time I watch this movie, I want to change the ending)
Honorable mentions: Bridge to Terabithia, Schindler's List, Steel Magnolias, Patch Adams, okay I'll stop!
I really wanted to pick more though, lol, oh well!

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
I'm a big softy anyway, but these are my top 5 weepies:
1) The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde (Made into an animated video short which you can find on YouTube. Find the version narrated by Christopher Plummer) I defy anyone not to weep uncontrollably at the end scene.
2) Watership Down. Again, the final scene will break your heart.
3) The Elephant Man. For all the reasons stated above.
4) A.I. No, I'm not crazy. The final scene is quite literally, heart wrenching in my humble opinion.
5) Love Story. A touching, yet heartbreaking ending.

Yes! Watership Down. I couldn't listen to the song "Bright Eyes" without crying for years after I saw it!
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
A.I. killed me, I want to cry just thinking about that final scene, also the scene where his mother dumped him.

I didn't cry and I'm actually surprised and disappointed with myself :(
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
One of only two films I've given a 10/10 to was The Elephant Man. (The other was 2001: A Space Odyssey.)
I will likely only ever watch this film once in my lifetime. It's impact was unmatched, and I've never felt so emotionally drained after watching a film. I don't ever want to see it again because my original experience with The Elephant Man was unparalleled, and I'd hate to diminish the impact it had in any way.
Nice guy? I don't give a sh_t. Good father? F_ck you! Go home and play with your kids.

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
There is no other movie I can think of that made me sob convulsively like this one. I viewed it again recently and luckily I was alone at the time and could let it all out. I've never wept so much during a film and don't believe I ever will.

Nice lists even the ones mentioned.
Where's Bambi, Fox and The Hound, Wizard of Oz's Dorthy saying farewell scene, Neverending Story with the Artax scene etc.?
You killed Captain Clown, YOU KILLED CAPTAIN CLOWN-The Joker on Batman TAS
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
King of Masks
Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
The Wizard of Oz used to make me cry, but I think I've seen it so many times now, I am immune. But I always have tissues handy when I'm watching a movie.
"Philadelphia" makes me cry every time.
And another Tom Hanks performance that was heart wrenching was the end of "Captain Phillips."
And to go farther back in time - "Love Story" and "Brian's Song" are real tear jerkers!

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
I remember crying on 3 films, one was Elephant Man; during the scene where he breaks down upon meeting Mrs Treves. Next is Hachi: A Dogs Tale; truth be told, I haven't seen this film the whole way through but I cried when apparently Richard Gere's character had been dead for 10 years and the dog was still waiting for him. This next one is the least known of the three but this belongs at the end of a miniseries called Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story, if anyone knows a thing about what kind of life she led, you can guess from a number of scenes but the one that got me was when she was meeting Cary Grant while in her 60's with almost nothing left. Does that matter? No. They both make the most of the time they have together even though, by this point, they had lost their fame. It is genuinely hard to find a "happy moment" in that film but this one moved me to tears.

Re: Impossible movies to not cry on? Top 5.
I've only ever properly cried to one movie - Green Mile - but I had to fight back tears on quite a few. For example, What's eating Gilbert Grape, The Pianist, The Dallas Buyer's Club, Ray, Rain Man and Leaving Las Vegas are just a few big names which spring to mind.
I might also mention that I am too afraid to watch Her because I know I will cry uncontrollably.

It was touching but I didn't cry. Wasn't even close. I was angry at best.
I cry about Lion King, every time, and surely about many other Disney movies.
I don't make or have a list of cry movies.
But the most I cried when I watched The Impossible for the first and only time. Couldn't get a grip on myself.
Lincoln Lee: I lost a partner.
Peter Bishop: I lost a universe!

The Elephant Man (1980) is definitely the movie that made me cry the most (followed by The Green Mile (1999)), but the only movie I've watched enough times to be sure it'll always make me cry is The Iron Giant (1999).

The end where he tells his father how he's really going to die.
I've walked out of a room prior to that scene because other people were around.
It gets me every time.
Of course I didn't tell them why i left
