Doctor Who : Idea for a companion

Idea for a companion

While watching 11's bit with queen Nefertiti, How cool would it be for some historical figure to actually travel with the Doctor?

Re: Idea for a companion

As like a one episode thing then sure.

Re: Idea for a companion

I gather Mary Shelley became a full companion in the Big Finish range.

Re: Idea for a companion

As I'm sure you're aware, in late 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 10 days under very mysterious circumstances. That leaves open some interesting possibilities for the return of Fenella Woolgar to the TV series.

Although I have heard that something similar was done on another media platform. Either the novel range or Big Finish. However, that's no reason why it couldn't be done on TV.

Re: Idea for a companion

I thought her real-life disappearance was the rationale behind The Unicorn and the Wasp.

Apparently Big Finish were going to feature Agatha Christie and make use of the same real-life event in the play The Magic Mousetrap, but then removed this element when they learned of AG's planned appearance on TV.

How did that episode end with regards to Agatha ? Does anyone remember ? I thought Agatha ended up outside the hotel in Harrogate (was it ?)and she was feeling a bit befuddled.

That means there is theoretically time for the current Doctor to arrive at that point in time and whisk her off for 2 years of adventures before depositing her back outside the Harrogate (?) hotel 3 minutes after he picked her up. Does that make sense ?

"I thought her real-life disappearance was the rationale behind The Unicorn and the Wasp."

Might make an interesting multi-Doctor serial. Insert the current Doctor - at the time of production - into the period that is not shown in THE UNICORN AND THE WASP.

Re: Idea for a companion

She appeared in one half hour story, and three further 2hr stories (though it is noted the Doctor and Mary traveled together for years), Nicholas Briggs mentioned in a podcast a few months ago he'd love to do more stories with Mary Shelley but isn't sure if it would be possible for the forseeable future for scheduling reasons, not sure if the actress is still working anyway.

Re: Idea for a companion

Maybe Riann Steele will be offered the part of 13?

Re: Idea for a companion

How about the girl with the pearl earring. She doesn't even need to be from Vermeer's time.

Re: Idea for a companion

Either that or an alien. People are complaining about the doctor remaining male and how the show needs change. The show would feel fresh with simply an assistant other than a 21st century female

Re: Idea for a companion

I agree. Why can't it be male and from another time period and/or location? Why it has to be yet another 21st century female from UK?
