There's a movie either coming out soon or that just recently came out that's about a dystopian world where children have to prepare to take a test at a certain age in order to survive. Sound familiar?

Also consider the Divergent (2014) sequels Insurgent (2015), Allegiant (2016) and The Divergent Series: Ascendant (2017).

If I remember correctly, it's more of an intelligence test rather than a survival test. I swear I just saw a trailer for a movie with this premise but I can't find it anywhere.

There is a short story by Henry Slesar and a Twilight Zone Episode with this Plot.

Sounds like the premise to the short story, "Examination Day" by Henry Slesar. It was adapted into a 6-7 minute* short film in 2014 called diePrüfung (2014). Could you have seen the short thinking it was a trailer?

If not Divergent (2014) (or one of its sequels: Insurgent or Allegiant), then maybe Boy 7 (2015)?

Or how about After The Dark (2013) a.k.a. The Philosophers?

Is the movie about the test itself, or rather about the preparation for the test?
