Black Mirror : San Junipero
Re: San Junipero
she did mention she have no way of knowing that her family would be together in the afterlife, anyway as shown in the end she is buried with them at least.
Also I doubt she is actually in the server, its prob a copy of herself in San Junipero and her soul went elsewhere. There is no way u could break down consciousness into bits and bytes so its not actually 'her'.

Re: San Junipero
her soul went elsewhere
Ummmmmm, there's no such thing as a soul. I hate to be the one to break it to you.
Just to clarify, your thoughts are all chemical reactions in your physical brain. Nothing about that lives on after your brain stops working.
Re: San Junipero
You say this as if it's the absolute truth. If it truly was just ALL chemical reactions then why can't we create consciousness in a lab? Maybe we're not that advanced yet, sure but you're saying it would be possible in the future? I highly doubt it.
Re: San Junipero
and you know that we haven't accidentally created a consciousness in some lab, maybe even a million times over, exactly how?
This is how Religion conquers minds, chirrin. Don't be That Guy. Keep wondering, learning, and thinking. Don't give in to some imaginary horsesh?t sky fairy genocidal dictator crap.

Re: San Junipero
Dude, typical epitomising example of the arrogance of the human race whereby we assume that we KNOW anything. Stating there is no soul like it's a fact.
Well firstly, if there is no such thing as a soul then why do millions upon millions of people talk about it. Even if the soul isn't real or tangible, whatever that means, it exists as a concept, an ideology, a theory.
Secondly, in order to state that the soul does not exist for a fact, you need to prove it. There is very little about the nature of existence and reality that we actually know for sure. We could be in a matrix, 'God' could be a planet on which lives a society of sentient beings more advanced than us (I believe if there is anything even remotely similar to the concept of God, this is the most likely scenario until we can prove otherwise), and we could be entertainment or an experiment for these extra-terrestrials. There are many unexplainable phenomena throughout history, and it's possible that life from outside this planet offers a part of the explanation for such phenomena.
So dude, stating there is no such thing as a soul, so confidently like that like it's a fact.. you may as well just scream "I'm arrogant, narrow minded and think I know everything". Also I have a theory that the more someone claims to KNOW, the less intelligent they are. It's counter-progressive thinking dude.

Re: San Junipero
Millions upon millions of people also believe in aliens, reptilian overlords, and that Elvis is still alive. Does that mean all that *beep* is real, too?
Re: San Junipero
The liklihood of extra-terrestrial life not existing beyond this planet, I think, is minute. The universe is bigger than any of us KNOW, such a liklihood as to the existence of ETs cannot be stated as fact, can only be speculated upon because we do not KNOW that much about anything outside of Earth. So, I speculate, that the chance of life on Earth being the only life in the entirety of existence, is incredibly unlikely.
Reptilian overlords did exist. Became extinct 65 million years ago. Dinosaurs were reptilian, and in ruling the planet at that time, they were overlords. So yeah, that $hit is real. Their remains are still being discovered to this day.
Life is an abstract concept. As I said, we could be in a matrix. We could be a part of a game or an experiment. We do not KNOW that these things are not so. So maybe Elvis (presumably you're referring to Elvis Presley?) was never alive. Maybe none of us are alive or ever have been, maybe we are cookies similar to those in White Christmas, maybe we are all all ready dead and don't know it. Discussing the tangible reality of the life, or lifelessness, of any individual as something factual, in my opinion based on my open minded approach to philosophical, progressive thinking, is futile. We do not KNOW.

Re: San Junipero
First of all, why the hell did she choose her over her husband and child?
You answered your own question. Heaven is a fantasy and she decided to continue a relationship with a real person instead of just dying.
Re: San Junipero
My question still goes unanswered Kelly said since her daughter didn't get to go to the fake world (because it was created after her death) she shouldn't go either. Her husband decided not to go to the fake world for the sake of their child. It makes no sense to me why Kelly would just be like "fck my daughter and husband, I'm just gonna *beep* a girl I barely met for eternity"
Re: San Junipero
She told Yorkie that she have no way knowing if she would be with her family in the afterlife. She also realised that Yorkie is right that her husband choose to leave her instead of passing over so she decided to move on and be together with Yorkie.
Re: San Junipero
Just finished seeing this.
Or we can interpret it this way: her husband chose to be with his daughter? When he died, Kelly was still alive so she still had time to decide.
If I were Kelly, I would've chosen my own family instead, even if it means there's a chance that there's nothing after death and I become nothing. But, if there is a slight chance that I might reunite with my family, I'd risk that chance.
The scene where Kelly explaining her years of being with her husband and having a daughter together with him made me sad. I can't imagine losing mine or my kids.

Re: San Junipero
Yeah that's what I was thinking. That Kelly still had time to decide and everything about her husband that she was with for nearly 50 years. I don't know if I misunderstood Kelly's reasoning but I swear her main reasoning for not wanting to stay with Yorkie was that since her daughter didn't get the chance to live in the fake world, she shouldn't be able to either. NOT that there was a chance of being with her late husband and daughter. I'm sure that was a part of it but not the main reason.
But yes, if i was in Kelly's position I'd also be willing to take the chance of being able to see my daughter again. And if not, then I'd have the same fate as my daughter in an eternity of nothing.

Re: San Junipero
Yup your grim When she "passed" her body and soul, assuming souls exist, passed on with her husband and child. But her conciousness, which is real, passed on with Yorkie and SJ. In a nutshell she had love for both and split her love in an even way for both.
Re: San Junipero
She HAS no way, not she have no way. Your name is English, but you don't speak it very well.
Re: San Junipero
See the problem with your attitude is failure and/or unwillingness to even try and consider, appreciate, understand that amongst the billions upon billions of people on earth.. careful now this may blow your mind.. amongst all these people, their mentality, belief is not the same as yours. Yeah that's right, people other than yourself have differing ideologies.
Now, wanting to exist in a harmonious happier time for eternity after life.. just because that doesn't appeal to you, that does not mean you should make such aggressive, sweeping statements that attempt to belittle people who would like such a thing.
Why would anyone choose an eternity in a fake world like that? I could just as easily ask why would anyone choose an eternity in nothing? Dude.. either way it's an eternity but it's either an eternity with something or an eternity with nothing.. how narrow minded of you. I'm sorry I am just so magnificently baffled by your wonderfully closed mind.
I would love that. To be able to skip through different time periods for eternity and just party and have fun.. it's an unhealthy nostalgic pipe dream I suppose but it's a nice idea. I don't think it would get boring or repetitive quickly either.. no more than actual life, as it basically resembles life. It's not really different from actual life other than that you know it's not real.. and by the way we do not know for sure that this life IS real (prove it). And, taking into consideration that you can move into different periods of time, an argument could be made that there is actually MORE to do in San Junipero than in the real world.
So, in my opinion, your argument is not only very narrow minded but also incredibly flawed.

Re: San Junipero
Srsly. Nutshell version: Either of them can unplug at any time. Just enjoying today, or the next 1,000 years, is enough.
Re: San Junipero
Further certifying the severe limits on your intellectual capability, your drastic inability to debate, to back up your argument, or even to read. You are an exemplary example of the typical contemporary.. 'adult'.
Re: San Junipero
Chill, why are you being so defensive? OP didn't even say anything bad.
Re: San Junipero
Maybe it was grim to you because you sound like a grim person to begin with
Re: San Junipero
This
San Junipero
First of all, why the hell did she choose her over her husband and child?
Secondly, why would anyone choose an eternity in a fake world like that? It would get boring FAST and even Kelly said people end up being degenerates at the Quagmire.
It was all just so grim to me. Her soul/mind (?) is just data trapped in a server forever. I'd rather die and just cease existence.
It's kind of the reason I hate religion. Part of religion is just a coping mechanism for the fear of what comes next. Personally, I hope there's absolutely nothing next. I hope it's the same as it was from before I was born ie. nothing. I don't want a heaven or hell. It's more comforting just living my life here on Earth and then once my time is done, moving onto nothing. No memories, nothing.
