Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

I would wait for the dvd. After doing some research I found out that this film is indeed a short film (which I wasn't sure about before). The least amount it costs to watch this film on a road tour is $20.00. There is no way I'm paying that much to see a short film. It ain't happening. If I were you, I would wait for the dvd or something else. Short films shouldn't cost $20.00 to watch. I don't know anyone who would pay that kind of money to see a short.

Yes. I wasn't sure about it before, but it is indeed a short film. Just go to Google and type in "Devil's carnival short film." It is not a feature length film.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

It's 55 minutes as it is the first 'episode' in a series. However, the $20 is more than just for The Devil's Carnival. It also entails a Q&A, and some other crazy antics before the showing, as well as possible unreleased Repo! clips. Also, the project is self financed by Darren Lynn Bousman. There is NO guarantee if/when this could even make a DVD release. Repo! had a distributor; this project has none and plans to take on none.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Yeah, but still. $20 for all of that is just not worth it (at least IMO). I really want to see the film. I loved Repo!, yet, Bousman has to be out of his mind if he thinks the majority of Repo fans will pay $20 for a short film and a few other things. It just ain't happening with me.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Understandablebut the man has to make his money back somehow, so I can't fault him. And surprisingly, VIP tickets have already begun to sell out at $40.

Let me tell you a tale for a penny, one that you cannot hear anywhere else, not anywhere else.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Yeah, I know he has to make his money back, but I'm sure there are other ways to do such a thing. It seems like it was a bad idea for him to make The Devil's Carnival in the first place. While I loved Repo!, it barely made any of its budget back. This film seems like it will end up the same. I'm not sure what the budget is, but I doubt Bousman is going to make even half of it back with the prices he's asking for.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the VIP tickets that are being bought are by the hardcore Repo! fans. The one's that actually went to the midnight showings and dressed up and everything. I'm sure they are pleased spending money on Bousman. I guess I'm just not that committed to such a cult following.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

so why not release on dvd as well?

on tour only? not smrt so its a very limited potential audience.

I want to watch this movie due to hannah minx been in it but no chance without a dvd release.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Somebody said the majority of REPO fans wouldn't shell out $20 to see DCthen they must not have met any hardcore REPO or Zdunich fans. The majority of the pople there WILL BE REPO! fans. Plus, you are not just paying to see the filmlike others have stated there will be others things to do and see.

Only a teenager could oversleep when there's a corpse to move.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

If you want to go see a movie in theatres nowadays it's 12.99. An extra 8 dollars to see some extra things and a live show? Including a Q&A?

That's an amazing deal.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Well that would be nice if it was a full-length movie, not a short film. Plus you have to factor in another twenty dollars if you want to have the meet and greet with Darren and Terrance. So if you want the full experience you're going to have plunk down close to fifty bucks.

You're not just paying to see the movie. It's a complete experience. The theater I went to was completely decked out to look like the Devil's Carnival. They had sideshow attractions on stage. A bunch of carnival "freaks" if you will, performing before the movie with a very attractive female hostess running everything.

Then there was a costume contest.

Then you hear Terrance Zdunich's voice booming as the Devil, and the hostess gets scared, cowering to his voice, staying in the performance.

After that, Terrance Zdunich and Darren Lynn Bousman come out and take questions and talk to the audience.

Before the movie you got to see a documentary about the making of Repo! The Genetic Opera. Then the movie plays, and afterward Terrance and Darren stay to talk to fans and sign autographs. And they wait until every single person is gone too.

Yeaheasily worth $20.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

If it were any where near me, I would smack down the $40 to see it. These aren't just screenings to watch it. Its a tour with a costume party, VIP meet and greets, and other things going on. Its an entire evening of things to do more like a convention.
If you're not a Repo! or Terrence Zdunich fan then don't bother. They both gave interviews saying they made this because they loved Repo! and the fans who still do the midnight showings and shadowcasts.

This was never meant to be a mass release movie. Its more like a tribute to the fans and because they both wanted to make something they would have fun doing. Darren said on his website that he hasnt enjoyed making a movie as much as he did making Repo!

It'll be worth it if you can get to one just for the experience.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

It is totally worth it. The VIP tickets are selling for $40 and they are selling out. New locations are being added because there is such a demand for this experience. Just meeting Darren and Terrance is worth the $20. People dress up and sing along if they know the words. Plus you get to see bits from Repo that were not in the dvd of it. I bought 3 VIP tickets so I can take my two kids. My daughter saw Repo when she was 12 and dressed as Shilo. Darren and Terrance were more than gracious. I think that the experience is worth the $20. Also, depending on the location, different actors from the movie may show up. The memories will reignite every time you watch the movie.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

I went to the Charlotte, NC show two nights ago and it was worth every penny. Like a previous poster said, it's self-financed, so a dvd depends on how well the tour does. Meeting the guys was amazing, but I'm speaking as a fanatic of Repo. I say go, the movie was fantastic, short but that's not why you go to a movie. Try something new, you'll be thankful you did.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

I went to the showing in Philly last night. I asked Darren and Terrance when they plan on releasing a DVD, and they said within the next 3-5 months. I'd say it's an awesome experience if you're a serious fan of their work, but it is a short film. So, if you want to experience the awesomeness that is "The Devil's Carnival" road tour, I highly recommend it. It was a good time. If you just want to see the film, you haven't got too long to wait.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

i play blind mag in the sacramento,ca shadowcast & we had our showing last night, it was amazing & even though i could have gotten a comp ticket for being part of Repo! i paid the $20 to support the tour & bought merch too.it was well worth every penny & i paid $20 for the signed soundtrack as well.our show was sold out & since i got there late i didn't even have a seat, so i watched from staff only access, but i enjoyed it. i am happy that this type of entertainment is getting love & support.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

There's really no guarantee that it's going to be out on DVD. The tour is an amazing experience. It's not all about the show, it's about community and enjoying a night with like-minded people. It's a really fun time and something you can't replicate at home.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

hey, Question, when does it come out on dvd, cause i so want to go see this movie. specially it has a few actor's and actress's in this movie.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

I went to one of the showings, and Darren said that they have no distributor for a DVD. Sadly, it may not ever come out. It all depends on how much he makes on the road tour. I would guess it will be made available in some form or another, such as itunes, etc. But as of right now, there is no release date

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

oh thats cool. did you have fun, really, damn, well i hope that some day that he does cause i really want to watch it. oh and for the distributor, would lionsgate work. thanks for letting me know. do they have a trailer tho

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

They do have a trailer you can watch on youtube. During the Q&A Darren said that he has had enough "jumping through hoops" to get his movies seen, based on how they treated all of his movies since Saw. He has made 4 movies since he made Saw, and they are good movies but nobody has seen them. So him and Terrance took TDC on the road and did everything themselves with a limited budget. It's doubtful that Lionsgate will pick it up. Its all about the $$ really, and if Darren can prove it will make the distributor money, then I am sure they'll get it out.

Here is a link to Darren's blog, maybe that will clarify some things

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

oh cool, thanks, i have seen all of the SAW MOVIES 1 - 7. i loved all 7 of them. i have been hearing that they could be making an 8th saw, true everything does cost money, thanks for letting me know. ill check the tralier now./

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

A few words about the road show:

1) I am a huge REPO! fan, and one thing I know about most repo fans, they are annoying as all hell. You will be viewing the movie with a crowd of people who have all memorized the words to all the songs but have not yet seen the movie. Be prepared.

2) Darren really needs to make his money back, and he doesn't hide it. Him and Terrance are only signing TDC related merch, no Repo or Saw stuff, which sucks. They have plenty of TDC merch to buy for them to sign

3) They really push those soundtracks, for 20 dollars! I bought a digital copy for 8 online.

4) It is not a full length movie.

5) The movie itself- not worth the whole shebang. However, it was very good, and definitely worth seeing.

Honestly, I would purchase the soundtrack online to support the project and wait. The shows are all selling out, so hopefully it will get released. The movie was good but overall I was disappointed in the whole experience.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

I kind of agree about the first part having attended two Repo! screeningsat times it got annoying hearing everyone talk throughout the bulk of the film. I mean I expected it as Darren pretty much invited the people to talk and sing along throughout the film before it started it but there were times when I just wanted to watch the story without hearing someone crack a corny joke about "Leave Britney alone!" whenever Shilo was bald.

One part was kind of funny though was when someone dressed up as the conductor ran in front of the audience and started conducting them.

Re: wait on dvd or go to a tour showing…

Wow, Bousman is really interesting, it's like gothic, burlesque John Waters.
Great stuff.
Strangely arthouse.
