Re: Most hated characters
Don't forget about Rex Huntington who treated Blanche terribly and got violent towards dorothy when she confronted him.
And Marla and Jackie who expeted the girls to take the fall for their shoplifting. They were so manipulative.

Re: Most hated characters
Or Daisy, the girl who wouldn't give Rose back Fernando, her teddy bear, when Blanche accidentally gave it away for a rummage sale.
Re: Most hated characters
Man Child Michael! srsly, who ties his shoes???
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Most hated characters
Stan Zbornak, the original Peter Pan.
Re: Most hated characters
I loved Stan as he was the perfect foil for Dorothy, albeit she insulted him more than he did her. I loved his visits and the chaos that ensued.
Re: Most hated characters
Stan was a master manipulator who played upon Dorothy's conflicting feelings for him to get what he wanted, usually money or sex.
Luckily, Dorothy eventually grew a backbone that enabled her to move on with her life with the result of her marriage to Lucas Hollingsworth.

Re: Most hated characters
In the episode "The Triangle"when Dorothy was dating Dr. Elliot Clayton, he made a pass a Blanche. At first Dorothy didn't believe Blanche and it nearly cost them their friendship.
Re: Most hated characters
I didn't really hate Frieda Claxton. We weren't supposed to like her, but I didn't think she was in it enough to be hated. And I found some of her lines funny.
I also didn't hate Barbara as much as I hated Dorothy in this episode. I didn't understand this ultra clinginess she felt towards this woman. The whole setup felt childish.
I hated Mr. Terrific and Pepe, generally the worst episodes of the show. Also didn't care for Cousin Magda, and didn't understand why Stan's cousin would be staying with Dorothy ever.

Re: Most hated characters
Barbara Thorndyke didn't bother me. I thought Dorothy kicking her out and telling her to go to hell was extreme. After all, Dorothy was excited about going to the Mortimer Club before finding out about them being exclusive.
I thought Blanche was rude to her by criticizing her book. You may think it but you don't say it.

Re: Most hated characters
Nah, Barbara had that coming to her, and probably didn't expect Dorothy, of all people, to say that to her. She probably would have just laughed it off had it been Rose saying it.
Blanche was rude criticizing Barbara's book, but again, Barbara was asking for it after drawing first blood with Dorothy's roommates.
That episode also made Dorothy look foolish and stupid. If Rose was able to see through Barbara, thenso should Dorothy.

Re: Most hated characters
Oh, Lord, Mr. Terrific was such a loser. I don't know what Rose saw in him.
Re: Most hated characters
4. Mr. Barton. The neighbor from the first season who initially refused to remove a tree of his that had fallen on to the girl's lanai during a storm.
5. Dr. Budd, the first specialist Dorothy saw in New York when she was having the health problems that was eventually diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
6. The racist relatives of Lorraine, the black lady whom Dorothy's son Michael married.
7. Professor Cooper, the night school teacher who sexually harassed Blanche.
8. Dr. Clayton, the doctor of Sophia's who made a pass at Blanche while dating Dorothy.
9. Rose's sister Holly
10. Kirsten. The first time she appeared she was a greedy bitch and the second time she appeared she initially flat-out refused to allow the girls to see Rose when she was in the hospital having triple bypass surgery.

Re: Most hated characters
Yes, Holly. I totally forgot about her. She was a bitch.
And Kristen. All she seemed to care about was what dear old Dad left her. Did she not believe in earning the money you have? And did this bitchy woman ever smile?

Re: Most hated characters
Don't know about hated, but there were several players- actor in play that dated them all, married guy that died in Rose's bed and married teacher Dorothy dated.
Re: Most hated characters
married teacher Dorothy dated.
this was the worst thing Dorothy did and the main reason why I hated her. she has no morals if she thinks this is acceptable. Not even Man hungry blanche would stoop that low.
She was the wife of someone who cheated on her at one point. I understand completely when he kept his marriage a secret but once she found out, she should have kicked him to the curb.
and what teacher has the resources or time for that matter to meet at hotels/motels during the day??? God, I hate Hollywood! They've never heard of reality when they write roles!
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
Re: Most hated characters
Ugh. The Glenn O'Brien episode I also never understood why anyone from the school board would be phoning a substitute teacher to see when she's coming back to work! Substitutes are overbooked and kept on rotation. They can reject jobs at will. No one would notice.
And I agree. This episode made Dorothy into the other woman. As someone who was once the wife, she should know better. Plus, his story about how it's "hard to walk out" is SUCH a line. Can't believe she fell for it so easily. I understand her being heartbroken, but continuing to be his mistress demonstrated her low self-self esteem more than anything else.
That said, I liked the second Glenn O'Brien. And I'm glad she walked away because she realized he couldn't be trusted, even though she tried to say, "Maybe I'm not trusting enough." As if it were her fault she couldn't trust the two-timer.

Re: Most hated characters
I'm glad Dorothy left as well.
I assume from how he reacted to his ex-wife on the phone ("I'm alone"), along with her leaving him and not the other way around, that he actually wanted her back.
Which means that he wanted his wife over Dorothy, and that Dorothy's feelings for him were much stronger than his feelings for her.

Re: Most hated characters
The guy who died in Rose's bed.
That's kind of funny. The dead man's wife was played by Priscilla Morrill, who unfortunately I've always disliked. Maybe because she left Lou Grant.

Re: Most hated characters
Not sure why, but I hated Michael's would-be mother in law. Am I alone here? I mean, she was gonna fight Sophia sure.
Re: Most hated characters
yeah, I know. they have no shame. who cares if fighting words were said, all the police would see are people kicking the crap out of an old lady.
all Sophia had to do was to shut her mouth and raise her fist to the sky.
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Most hated characters
And she was apparently racist. Granted, with a daughter in her 40s she had to be pushing 70, at least, and would have grown up in a bad time, but still. She cast the first stone, insulting a young man right in front of him and his family in their house.
Re: Most hated characters
OH no! you can't say that! you can't call a black person racist!
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
Re: Most hated characters
I would never do that. I would only call a racist person racist. (Yes, I get it.)
Re: Most hated characters
I am just kidding although there are a few black people who are racist who get upset when you call them out on their racism. which is them proving they are racist.
yeah, when they don't shout BLM when a black on black crime is committed.
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Most hated characters
I know you were kidding (hence the "I get it" comment). I'm not racist, but "minority entitlement" bugs me just as much as anybody.
Re: Most hated characters
ME bugs me to no end but I don't think it bugs many others. in fact, the most racist people I do see and have to come into contact with automatically think they are entitled because of the color of their skin/what their ancestors did/how they came to this country.
and if you call them racist forget it! they go all BLM on your ass.
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Most hated characters
Sophia is a jerk but so was the mother in law. I'd like to see a fight.
Re: Most hated characters
Sophia wasn't a jerk.
Re: Most hated characters
No you're not alone. Michael's would be black mother in law was a racist bitch. I wish she had fought Sophia. A tough italian lady going against some racist bitch who didn't appear to have struggled much in life as she said she had a maid and appeared fairly wealthy. Sophia would have whooped her ass!
Re: Most hated characters
I didn't really care for Blanche's grandson. The brat who came to visit.
And honestly, there are times when I would hear "Hi, it's me Stan" and I would groan and know that we had another "Stan" episode on our hands. But then again, there are times when I didn't mind Stan so much.
Oh and Frieda Claxton was hilarious!
I'm Oddly Even, who the hell are you?

Re: Most hated characters
Me neither. When Sophia smacked him for saying he didn't have time to sit around listening to everyone's arteries hardening, it was a great moment.

Rose's daughter KirstenBOTH of them.

Oh yeah, I forgot about her! What a bitch! Both times she was on the show!

Re: Most hated characters
I can't remember his name for the life of me now, but I hated the episode when Dorothy's former teacher came into town. He was writing a article I believe, and asked for Dorothy's help. In the end he used her work entirely and took all the credit for himself.
Re: Most hated characters
The character's name was Malcolm Gordon.
Can't remember the name of the actor who played him.

Re: Most hated characters
and Dorothy during this further proves my point of :Dorothy has low self esteem/self worth. she constantly 'forgot' reality when it came to guys who would sweep her off her feet.
from Glen, to Elliot to Stan to this schlub . really???

Re: Most hated characters
I really HATE it when Dorothy gets all giddy and sappy, whether it's Mr. Gordon, Beatlemania, or whatever.
Re: Most hated characters
That Beatlemania episode was terrible indeed! The idea of her going crazy over a fake Beatle was ridiculous. Wasn't that an episode towards the end when the show had run out of steam?
I'm Oddly Even, who the hell are you?
I'm Oddly Even, who the hell are you?
Re: Most hated characters
I thought the Beatlemania episode was really funny. The show hadn't run out of steam. It was Bea Arthur's decision to leave the show that ended it. They decided to go our on top.
Re: Most hated characters
The episode was good, at least when Dorothy and Blanche are on "Wake Up Miami" as you know whats. But yes, I didn't like Malcolm Gordon either.
Re: Most hated characters
Yes I agree. Jeremy was awful to Blanche's daughter and Blanche's boyfriend Rex was pretty bad too
Re: Most hated characters
Interestingly, I just finished watching the "V" mini series, and Bonnie Barlett, who plays Barbara, who was anti-semitic, plays a Jewish mother! Her personality was different there, it makes it so amazing how talented actresses like her are.
Re: Most hated characters
1. Kirsten, Rose's daughter who stormed out on her mother because she only cared about the money in her father's will. Never mind the fact that your mother didn't get a single penny from Charlie's will and is probably going to work past her retirement age.
2. David, Blanche's bratty grandson who deserved that slap from Sophia and was obnoxious to everyone.
3. Blanche's boyfriend that was abusing her and even physically grabbed Dorothy's arm.
4. The guy who hated Rose for no reason even though she was being extra in this episode too.

Re: Most hated characters
I hated Kid Pepe.
He gets himself a good deal, room & board & training and does nothing to indicate that he understands/speaks English
Then leaves the Girls in the night to go play his violin.and tops it off by calling THEM racist?!
How were they racist?! The Girls assumed nothing, they just went along with what information he provided!
Mammy (Viola) Watkins. What a horrid woman, just showing up in Blanche's life out of the blue after vanishing in the night. She starts right off by being bitchy to Rose, who was dippy yes but was only trying to be kind to her!
Then Mammy proceeds to demand a music box that she has no right to. Giving it to Blanche's father does not mean she is entitled to get it returned to her!
Mammy then tells Blanche that she does not deserve to even be angry at her for sleeping with her married fathr, because 'she was in love'. Um so what?!
To top it off, after finding out the music box isn't the right one..she reveals her true colors and true intentions by saying "I guess this was all for nothing."
Blanche should have smacked her face.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Re: Most hated characters
Yes, and they do the work that Americans won't.
Such as picking fruits and vegetables, cleaning toilets, etc.
And for FAR less pay than American laborers would receive.
"Best of both worlds"?
HAH!!

Most hated characters
dead, and it worked.
2. Jeremy, Blanche's almost son in law who verbally abused her daughter Beckie with
fat jokes, among other things. You just wanted to pour hot coffee down his
pants, like Blanche wanted to.
1. Barbara Thorndyke, Dorothy's rude, snobbish, and condescending friend who wrote
trashy romance novels, all the while putting down Rose and Blanche. Rose was the
perfect verbal punching bag for Barbara, and thank goodness Dorothy unfriended
her before heading off to the Mortimer Club. She takes the cake.
