Red Dwarf : Very sudden endings

Very sudden endings

A recurring element with the new series.

Re: Very sudden endings

Actually, a few of the previous seasons had this problem too.

I don't care about a troll who doesn't pay for his opinion telling me how to review movies.

Re: Very sudden endings

Instead of writing a wrap up, which takes time away from an already short episode length, they stop when the plot is basically done. It's nothing new so it can be seen as part of the show's style.

Re: Very sudden endings

Yes the last episode where thy decided to shoot the Rimmer monster was incredibly abrupt.

Fitting in a great final line like ' Duck's off sorry' was beyond the writers.

Re: Very sudden endings

I was certain that was / is going to be part of a two part episode. Is it not? Has the 5th ep been aired now.

Re: Very sudden endings

It's due on 20.10.16. Doesn't look connected from the plot description

Doesn't look connected from the plot description

It isn't.

Re: Very sudden endings

Well that's just bizarre then as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Very sudden endings

I've actually streamed the next episode and it was self contained with no connection to the Rimmer monster.

Re: Very sudden endings

Yeah I thought it was very abrupt. There would at least a joke at the end but the last episode it was just gunfire.

Re: Very sudden endings

I love the characters but some of the comedy timing seems to be a little out. Perhaps the writers couldn't think of anything for the ending.

Re: Very sudden endings

That Rimmer monster I'm sure was going to die when its mission was complete, as this was set up earlier. perhaps they were to give it a to do list which it completes and then melts. But no they just shoot it, the end. not satisfying

The mans tongue didnt come through customs!

Re: Very sudden endings

I just finished the series and was going to post this very same thing until I saw your (OP's) post. I hated the endings for the first four episodes. Very weak and I would have preferred a wrap up scene. The last two episode's endings were better though.

Re: Very sudden endings

I must admit when I got it on DVD, after watching the episodes I checked out the deleted scenes on the extras disc to see if maybe there was supposed to be any follow-on footage that they couldn't find room for because of the episode runtimes. But it seems not. They were apparently always meant to end on the abrupt note they did. Maybe the problem is the director just didn't quite nail the last shot with the cathartic 'umpf!' it needed.
