Brie Larson : Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Civil War is considered one of the top 5 comic5b4 book films of all time.
Critics and most fans differ from you. Civil War was actually praised for it's more compelling and mature plot, so you're wrong again.

If you hate Marvel, go watch the DC Snyderverse. Snyder doesn't know how to make a good comic book movie, or a good movie at all. The greatest trick ever played in film history was when people believed that Zack Snyder was a director.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

haha just because i have a different opinion doesn't mean I'm wrong. That's just childish. I didn't even say CW was bad, it was a decent but formulaic action movie. definitely not mature though. Even if the all powerful critics said it was, guess what, I can still think it was immature and not be "wrong"

"Our judgement isn't good enough to make the decision on when to go into combat. I'm using this judgement to determine that these people over here do have good enough judgement to tell us when go into combat." The fact that this contradictory mess of an argument had sway over so many people alone makes the movie not very mature.

Here, this guy sums up my thoughts on it pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q6X8oHh7wA
that's where i got the pro-wrestling analogy.

No. while I think marvel movies as a whole are tofu cookie cutter action movies, suicide squad is easily the worst film I've seen this year. I'm not blinded by fandom for DC or Marvel. I just like good movies. and that's the problem. assuming "well if you don't like marvel just go watch DC" like there aren't other options for good movies.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Civil War was a great movie. Whether you like it or not is your opinion.

Name your top 5 movies of 2016.

I now see that you gave Midnight Special only a 6, and Hell or High Water only a 7.

Yup, your tastes are off. Midnight Special is considered by myself and the majority to be one of the best films of the year, and Hell or High Water, while I have not seen it yet, is considered to be one of the best of the year.

and Boyhood, Birdman, Before Midnight, and The Social Network are HIGHLY OVERRATED.

You want to see underrated films with QUALITY??? Watch ROOM (2015) and SHORT TERM 12

whether or not it is a great movie is also an opinion.

top 5 2016:
Arrival
Kubo
10 Cloverfield Lane
Nice Guys
Dr. Strange

Yes. Those are both good scores. it isn't like school where 70 is barely passing. A 5/10 is average. a 6 is above average and a 7 is good. giving anything you like a 10/10 is where rating inflation comes from.

Okay, first off Midnight Special is #93 here http://www.metacritic.com/browse/movies/score/metascore/year/filtered
so hardly considered one of the best of the year.
I liked the movie okay but it had off pacing, and since it was essentially a chase movie pacing is important. At times it was trying to transcend genre and at times it was trying to be a genre piece so that messed with the tone for me. I'm not just going to give it a 10/10 bc critics say to, these are my specific problems with the movie that I still enjoyed. Now, why do you (not critics but you) like the movie?

Since you haven't even seen Hell or High Water why are you defending it? Bc of what critics said? Boyhood, Birdman, Before Midnight and Social Network were all beloved by critics and you call them overrated so maybe see a movie before you judge it?

in all that research you did into my ratings you clearly didn't see that I loved both of those movies, even gave ST12 a 10/10.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Boyhood was thin as tissue paper. Nothing was good about it except Ethan Hawke's performance.

I rarely ever agree with Metacritic. Boyhood is one of their highest rated films.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Both parents gave good performances. It was impressive from a production standpoint, going for 12 years and such. It had something to say about the milestones of growing up and did so subtly, culminating with Patricia Arquette's speech at the end. That's why I liked it.

It's still an aggregation site. Still shows that Midnight Special is not one of the most beloved films of the year. Same with RT, which ranks it at 87.

Also shows that you should understand that I can disagree with Civil War's status as a great film on the basis of the glaring flaws that I mentioned, and that disagreement isn't "wrong" because of what some critics say.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Patricia Arquette cannot act. She is one of the reasons why CSI Cyber is trash.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

Academy Award Winner Patricia Arquette's acting is dependent on the director and script, I'll give you that.
Every show CBS makes is trash from just about every 2000angle. They're all lazy single-cam sitcoms or lazy, episodic police procedurals. So no surprise she's bad in CSI, every CSI iteration is lazy.

Still was bad in Boyhood, which I thought was a pretty bad movie.

Agreed. Big Bang Theory is all that they have left. I heard that the new MacGyver is not bad either.

As for you mentioning Arrival, really wanting to see it. I love Denis Villeneuve.

Loved 10 Cloverfield Lane and Nice Guys. Haven't seen Doctor Strange or Kubo yet.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

I love Denis Villeneuve.

Same, I've loved everything he's done. Arrival prob isn't his best but was still fantastic. So far head and shoulders above everything else I've seen this year.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

I heard that Arrival IS his b68best.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

It's definitely close. I'd consider Prisoners his best but I haven't seen it in a long time. I've seen Enemy and Sicario recently enough to compare and I would say Arrival is the best of those three at least.

Re: Going from Winning an Oscar and being in Room to freaking Marvel

I think that's a bit harsh. A lot of the marvel movies don't even feel like they have much action to me. Antman has like one fight scene, Iron Man has 3 "fight" scenes, two of which are decently brutal of him burning people and blowing up a tank, then it ends with a 7ish minute Iron Man suit fight. I'd say Age of Ultron and Civil War in parts feels like "WWE" at least Civil War is a good film. Age of Ultron is convulated boring trash about a robot that wants to destroy earth with a meteor and gets killed like 10 times and only kills one of the Avengers. Winter Soldier is pretty much Captain Bourne America so that one is worth watching, Guardians of the Galaxy is just a sci-fi film I don't think they should crossover with the avengers but whatever. Doctor Strange is like 65% interesting magical realm and character stuff 35% marvel action quota good action but I've seen it before in Inception and the Matrix. Doctor Strange would've been better if it was just about him learning all of these things instead of having to fight some bad guy because the producer said their had to be a generic bad guy. So if any of these films are "WWE" just go with Age of Ultron, Hulk I guess it's boring until the end, Iron Man 2 at the end, and Thor the dark world.
