The Fly II : Sad and funny (dogs)

Sad and funny (dogs)

As a horror movie it was pretty ok for more than the first half.
Watched the german dubbed version.
The poor crippled dog was really sad.
Yes, this movie has its moments!

Then it turned into one of the best comedies i've ever seen.
The young man with the fly genes left his cocoon and escaped from the evil scientists.
The amorphous cocoon looked fantastic and very colourful.

He was chased by the security and the one with the Rottweiler ordered his dog: Attack!
This was translated into german with: Angriff!
Alas, no german dog understands the commando "Angriff" and would stay with its master....confused.
For an attack a dog expects "Fass!" (= grip.....pronounced "fuss")
Better avoid to shout at a german dog "don't make a fuss!".....could lead to real fuss.

In this case the peaceful Rottweiler got some tender loving care by its target and allowed the monster to hang the scientiest in a very decorative way at the banister.....

For an emotional and frolic time will give now this great movie some extra points....especially for the dubbing!

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

Because of some harmless happenings here was reminded to this fantastic movie. ☺
Highly recommended.
And amazing that this dusty post still exists.
Great Filmboards' archive! ♥…without joke.

Special greetings to (secret) Rottweiler-fans and:
A happy Weekend for all!

Again:
Happy Weekend for you too-HuHu!

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

As a big horror fan and total puss, that scene really surprised the heck out of me, so add it to the small handful of horror films to actually make me leak. Especially considering the scene's heavy reliance of practical FX.

And as a linguaphile, I would imagine it's not often one learns how to speak to animals until they are fairly advanced, so thanks for that. Now to find a Deutsche Schäferhund…

It wants no straps.

You want to talk with a Schäferhund?!
One is just aside of me, sleeping…not 'mine'…owner is in the pub.

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

Love to, but probably should learn more Hundedeutsche (?) first. I only know the one word so far, and you seem nice. Naps are important. We even have a saying regarding that [in] the States: "let sleeping dogs lie." But do give them a nice scratch behind the ears for me.

Just did (scratch).
He's totally groggy…barley moves…and cats are not amused. ☺
They had a longer run before they dropped him here.
"Schlafende Hunde soll man nicht aufwecken."
"Sleeping dogs you shouldn't wake up."
See, similar saying here. ☺
And now will sleep also.

Good night!

A doggie scratch via F|B! The power of the internet!

Funny, I have spent a little time in Germany, Austria and Schweißedeutsche-areas, but barely can speak, mostly because nobody lets me try German and their English is usually better than mine. Despite that, I kind of figured that [phrase] out knowing a few basic words and that our languages share deep roots.

Hmmmm…Hmmmm.
Ok, your kidding "gut".
Of course our languages do that!
Nether german is half English.
Deep roots = Ragnar (so to speak)

Would like to see you with dogs…no serious things.
Just how do you do. ☺

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

"Doggie scratch" = exaggeration/joke

"Everyone in German-speaking Europe speaks great English" = half-joke, but in the cities, it's almost annoying how few chances I get to practice German

"Sleep well" = genuine

But seriously, I can't overstate my love for dogs, even the "scary" ones. Have never spent more than a few minutes with a pit bull I haven't cuddled with. One shiba inu was a jerk at first and bit me one time, but he came back a few minutes later and apologized, so we became friends. In fact the scariest dog I ever met was a dachshund. I think he might have been possessed or something.

A possessed Dachshund…Dackel.
Only wanted to read.
And should work, but who cares.
Phone is silent today, maybe fried also, bull-hot here. ☻
The 'possessed Dackel was too much, Hahahaha. ☺☺☺☺☺

Well, all dogs are good in sensing your mood.
Dackel are experts in it, maybe cause they're small.
Dackel's survival strategy is mind game..cause didn't work to become a wolf. 🐺
Could tell you zillions of funny Dackel-stories but to summarize them in short:
Never allow a Dackel to become your ruler!

Well, it's difficult to become and stay (!) a Dackel's ruler.
They're hell-stubborn. ☻
Therefore they should re-think the criteria of dog's intelligence.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intelligence_of_Dogs
Already said it on Filmboards somewhere, sometimes:
Border Collies are most intelligent, undisputed.
Rank 49 for the Dackel is unfair.
While obedience isn't part of Dackel's character they're manipulation masters.
That should count also! ☺

Edit:
Corrected wrong writing of Border Collies. ☺

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

If the dictionary I used was correct, no wonder they are stubborn: anything that has to fight badgers must be pretty tough!

It was simply a misunderstanding. Me and then gf were visiting my step mom in the apartment I grew up in and my old room in which we stayed was now his room. It was after dark when we walked in and he was under the bed. He defended his territory very aggressively, but in the end we won the battle that night, but ceded his domain the next day.

Spent a lovely time near Sussex, EN with two delightful border collies, one of whom was named Prince Edward, or Eddie for short. Can't recall the other's name, alas. Very polite dogs. Maintained good eye contact when in conversation.

Oh ok, understand and you're excused.
Yep, Dackel are brazen, brave, very territorial…and funny. ♥

Border Collies are fantastic!
Though would never call any dog a 'Prince'. ☺
And in a worst-case-scenario would rather have some Dackel and GSD at my side.

Posted this before…can always watch it again.
Even the moderator mentioned her fascinating eyes.
One of the all-time champions in Agility is Verb!

Audience favourite was Rudy, the bulldog. ☺

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

Being American, I probably have some cultural bias against royalty, but have great affection for our old world cousins and vive la différence! Plus I love animals with human names and think it's funny.

Both videos were great, and both dogs absolutely impressive, but my favorite part of Verb's was all the love he got and gave at the end, while Rudy got one head pat. Didn't know bulldogs could move like that.

Agreed, human names for animals are funny. ☺
But never would've called Frau Otto (cat) Prinzessin Otto.
She would've become megalomaniac and would've looted the fridge always.
Not only betimes. ☻

Was surprised by Rudy also, as the whole audience was.
Perhaps Rudy and his master would've gotten a heart attack if they made the same as Verb. ☺

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

Not sure where I got the idea, but I think it was from the cartoonist B. Kliban, who was most famous for drawing cats, and in one of his cartoons was a cat named Steve. Not sure if that name culturally translates well, but to me, that still makes me chuckle just thinking about it.

Nothing against cats per se, I've met plenty of friendly ones, but in general, I suspect they might naturally tend towards narcissism more than dogs.

Well, cats and dogs (and humans!) can be very cruel.
But neither cats nor dogs "tend towards narcissism".
Only humans do.

True.
And time for a little bump to adapt to fellow Filmboarders.

Re: Sad and funny (dogs)

I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid in the 80s. (And they wonder why GenX is so crazy)

That scene with the dog ripped my heart out. I was filled with emotions I wasn't used to.

Id like to watch the film again someday though.

Oh, it's you, Jasno! ♥
Nearly didn't recognize you.
Maybe you should watch the movie again in the dubbed version.
Dammit, phone is NOT fried. ☻
