The Hunt : church explanation
Re: church explanation
I think they had been friends for such a long time that when Lucas stared at him he saw innocence on his face.
It was almost as if Lucas was telepathic in that instance, pleading to his friend, "Please believe me I am innocent!"
That's what I got from the scene.
Was it a millionaire who said "Imagine no possessions"?

Re: church explanation
In the begining of the film there's a scene where Theo says he can tell when Lucas lies, he says I've known you for so long and I know you blink when you lie. In the church scene Lucas repeatedly stares at Theo without blinking.
Re: church explanation
Ahh totally forgot about that blinking thing!! that's great!
I loved the church scene because it's so strongly symbolic and not vague:
first as a side note -It's the house of god so everyone have to behave(Lucas is safe) and pretend to be civil people. In a sense without knowing they were acting exactly like that also before he was accused. and they do the same at the end - it's all "back to normal". I think there is a message here about modern society. It shows that people's interests may seem to go together greatly in friendship, but certain things can change these interests and then in a moment people can abandon or betray you. It's not that they are evil, it's just that the modern person is woven with these interests and is inherently neurotic and therefor easily manipulated into things.
But the main symbolic thing here is that I think the church represents godly justice. Everyone think lucas is the sinner, when actually it's them! Then It's like the wrath of god went into him and he literally beats the truth into his friend, only then his friends understood the truth. Classic stuff !

Re: church explanation
When I saw that scene Looking at Lucas and Theo staring at each other so deeply. I thot to myself "he can see it in his eyes that he's innocent" And next thing I know Theo said to his wife "I can see it when I look at him" but didn't explain what he meant That's what he meant! It's like my thinking was just a few seconds quicker than what the movie showed!
