Beyoncé : Question about the AOTY award

Question about the AOTY award

Which black artists have won this and how many times did each artist win? Does anyone know?

Re: Question about the AOTY award

Stevie Wonder (1974, 1975, and 1977)
Michael Jackson (1984)
Lionel Richie (1985)
Quincy Jones (1991)
Natalie Cole (1992)
Whitney Houston (1994)
Lauryn Hill (1999)
OutKast (2004)
Ray Charles (2005)
Herbie Hancock (2008)

So only 12 times in the history of the Grammys. And only 3 times by black women.

This doesn't count musicians who won as featured artists, producers, etc. (like Pharrell in 2014).

Here's to the mess we make.

So to use your words, all of those performers had to go "to the moon and bak" to win, right? Your words:

Black artists have to go to the moon and back to win major categories like these

As far as other black female winners
Rihanna, 8 times
Beyonce, 22 times
Sade, 4
Alicia Keys, 15
India.Arie, 4
Jill Scott, 3
Janet, 5
Jhud, 1
Mary J, 9
Brandy, 1
Monica, 1
Betty Wright, 1
TLC, 2
Ella Fitzgerald, 11
Dinah Washington, 1
Chaka Kahn, 10
Leontyne Price, 18
Mahalia Jackson, 4
Nancy Wilson, 3
Dionne Warwick, 5
Aretha, 18
Whitney, 5 (not counting AOTY)
Shirley Caesar, 11
Roberta Flack, 4
Gladys Knight, 7
Natalie Cole, 8 (not counting AOTY)
Lena Horne, 2
Latifah, 1
Tina, 8
Deniece Williams, 4
Mariah, 5
Donna Summer, 5
Patti, 2
Toni Braxton, 8
Erykah, 4
Lauryn Hill, 4 (not counting AOTY)

The list likely isn't complete, and that's not counting male performers. So they;re all moon-travelers, too, in your opinion? I;d say those numbers aren't too shabby

Re: Question about the AOTY award

Yes you stupid bitch, they DID have to go to the moon and back. You think Thriller would have won had it not become the best-selling album of all time? You think Herbie Hancock would have won if he didn't make a tribute album to a white woman?

And all of those wins you listed most of those artists did NOT win in major categories, so please have a SEAT.

Here's to the mess we make.

Re: Question about the AOTY award

LOL I am SCREAMING at the hilarity of Cherry's obsession about the Grammys! It's the Grammys! The conversation is already over and no one cares.

There are real world problems going on, The Grammys are a joke, Get over it.

Re: Question about the AOTY award

It's all cherry has. Once these boards close, its life is essentially over.

Quite likely. What's your explanation for the other AOTY winners?

You think Herbie Hancock would have won if he didn't make a tribute album to a white woman?

If it was as good as the one he won for, yes. Are you actually that fcking stupid? Apparently so.

Cherry, you are one fcked-up, delusional skank. You used 2 idiotic examples to lamely try to prove your point which is non-existent. Think you need to go back to the asylum.

Ohand let's look at your words from a few days ago:

As much as Beyonc deserves it I think it's going to go to Adele. Adele has won every Grammy she's been nominated for since 2011, and she's a lock for every other category she's competing in. Beyonc has the most critically acclaimed album in the category, but the very few times the Grammys take a left turn and go with a critical favorite, it's always a lower profile album (Arcade Fire, Beck, etc.).

Hmmmm. zero mention of race. how odd

And then you had this to say about beybey's pregnancy:

this seems like a last-minute ploy for the Grammy

So you had no problem with saying she exploited her unborn kids for personal gain, but now that she didn't win, it's racism and you're screaming about it as if World War III broke out and your house was ground zero.

Yeahthere's a straight-jacket in your future.

Re: Question about the AOTY award

Most of those wins aren't even in major categories. Why are you making it your mission to diminish the struggle of black artists?

Just because I can't kiss back, doesn't mean you can't kiss that.

Re: Question about the AOTY award

Oh, pleasedrama queen much? I probably know more about black artists than you do. Why are you making it your mission to completely over-exaggerate the situation and ignore the fact that the Grammys, historically, are probably the least racially troubled awards out there.

Re: Question about the AOTY award

What are "major categories"?? Only AOTY??

Beyonce won Best Song for Single Ladies, isn't that a "major award"? And btw.. that song was written and produced by dozens of people, and consists of the same repetitive phrase over and over and over again.
