Death in Paradise : Kris Marshall
Re: Kris Marshall
The show is good, and there is no shortage of British actor's happy to be in the sun for six months and be paid for it. In fact I'm still available to be Sara Martins pool boy.
Re: Kris Marshall
I agree, I was apprehensive at first when I guessed from the trailers that Ben Miller was leaving but am more than impressed with Kris Marshall in the episodes so far.
Re: Kris Marshall
I was extremely puzzle why that miller twerp was replaced by a log!
Then I realized it was the extremely untalented Kris Marshal.
Then it all fell in to place that this load of tripe was being done on a tight budget so any actors with talent would be far too expensive!

Re: Kris Marshall
The episodes with Kris Marshall so far have been excellent and I think he is excellent in the role. We all loved Ben Miller but there's definitely room for Kris. I also think he's very talented and creating a character that is unique and entertaining. The dynamic has changed but for the better. They are giving Dwayne and Fidel more depth; they don't just stand around in awe of Richard Poole anymore, they're behaving as a team should.

Completely agre. I noticed that difference too. And the same goes for Camille as well. She also feels more like a detective now, with her input being heard rather than ignored most of the time.
I also like that the new guy is trying to 'blend in' and understand the place, rather than complain about it all the time and looking down on it.
I loved Poole, Miller was my reason to start watching this show, but I've grown to like all charactes and I'm glad with the new guy.

I disagree a little with this. I think they all raised their standards in jobs because it gave them an incentive to do a better job. I remember in one of the first episodes we saw Fidel did all illumination fingerprints during the night with just a magnifying glass so he could get the info that Poole wanted , which showed initiative and made Poole suggest he take the Sergeants course. It seemed a little more edgier and respectful for the work they wanted to do for Poole.
Now it seems that that the new guy has to tell them what to do, Camille seems more of his keeper. Drinking beer all the time, it must have been what the guy before Poole was like.
While I don't hate the new guy, the bumbling schtick is getting annoying
Re: Kris Marshall
I see your point but I can't agree. Those were the early episodes and they needed Poole's direction. They've grown in their jobs. I think they're more comfortable with themselves now and relate to Humphrey as adults and pleasing their superior is not all they're interested in. As far as Camille is concerned she hasn't forgotten Richard and her sadness shows - she's still in love with him.
Re: Kris Marshall
"Fidel did all illumination fingerprints"
I suppose those "illumination" prints were helpful while he did them during the night. Did he also do any "Elimination" prints?

Re: Kris Marshall
How very unpleasant this comment is.
Actually, think logically, and if you remember Kris Marshall from 'My Family' you will recall that he played a buffoon, very convincingly - who had the most appalling family to come to terms with.
In 'Death in Paradise Kris Marshall has matured as an actor and has given us seven episodes of real enjoyment - so much so that we are ordering the DVD box set. I would also add that we are new to 'Paradise' only seeing it when we realised that Kris Marshall was starring in something new for him.
We genuinely enjoy it - and Kris, if you ever get to hear of any of these comments, we both hope you will continue in the role. Thanks to Chris and the rest of the brilliant cast for a lot of first class entertainment!

Re: Kris Marshall
Why are you watching a load of tripe? Look for the on/off switch. I wonder if there's an on/off switch for your perpetual shining wit. Maybe then you might give it a rest. Maybe then you might give US a rest too.
Re: Kris Marshall
I just started watching season 3 last week and you are right. Kris Marshall is doing a very good job. I hope more people will give him a chance. With Kris, the rest of the force is actually, maturing and changing as well.
Sometimes I wish I were a nicer person but then, I laugh and continue my day
Re: Kris Marshall
I've watched DiP since the beginning and loved it; it is totally ridiculous easy-going fun. Up to now Kris Marshall has been pretty good at 'filling in'. Episode 5 was the first one where I didn't miss his predecessor.

there's a Canadian show here, that I totally love.while I began watching it for the lead.because I have enjoyed him in just about everything that I've seen him on.
the supporting cast has really made the show their own as well.
the cop that helpsis actually coming up with good ideas of his own..and he is very quirky..and that's what I like about him.
so.

Re: Kris Marshall
Can't wait for the new season to start. I will be re-watching the series about two weeks before it comes back.
This way, the series gets started, I see if it is re-watchable and then I will be up to date for season 4.

Re: Kris Marshall
I really like Kris Marshall in this role. I wasn't a big fan of his previously, but he is doing an excellent job, so much so that I now prefer him to Ben Miller. I also prefer his character to Miller's - I loved the show previously but it did grate a little that he kept wearing that business suit - I would imagine that it would be hard to find anyone in the Caribbean with a suit like that! At least Humphrey is trying to blend in a little.

I agree with you, martin. I may be one of the rare people here who actually prefers the show with Kris's character. I did like Miller as Poole and related to his discomfort with the extreme heat of the island but I feel I relate even more to Humphrey and his slight bumbling awkwardness. I read Marshall's interview in the Radio Times before this series started where he said he'd planned to be out of the country while it's on in case he isn't received well as Miller's successor, but I honestly don't think he needs to worry; in my opinion, he fitted in with the rest of the cast quickly and effortlessly.
Re: Kris Marshall
Agreed - I love Kris in the role. The series is moving along really well and there is real character development. Kris Marshall is definitely a character many of us can relate to. I'm upset season 3 is ending but I'm looking forward to series 4!
Re: Kris Marshall
I'm getting a bit tired of the whole slapstick comedy they're doing with his character. When he fell off the treadmill in the last episode, I was more annoyed than amused. I think they should tone it down a bit and only use it when it's guaranteed to be really funny.
Re: Kris Marshall
Totally agree. Miller was wonderful in his role, but Marshall has already won me over. His character's being so understanding of Camille's grief over the loss of her friend was perfectly written. He has endeared the character to the audience one step at a time. Loved the ending of the second episode, when Harry the lizard joined Humphrey on the hammock, as if to tell us the new DI was A-OK!
This cast works, and the show is still a winner in my eyes!

Re: Kris Marshall
I was another of those who groaned when I heard that he was taking over from Ben Miller, whom I loved, but I also love Kris in this. Humph is absolutely adorable! I think his scenes with Sally and Camille in the last episode were some of his best bits of acting. I'm really looking forward to series 4.
Re: Kris Marshall
I agree regarding the last episode. Kris has grown tremendously as an actor since My Family (I really never enjoyed that program). I also like that Humphrey and Fidel now share a secret. He's bonded with all of them in a different way.
Re: Kris Marshall
don't know what new tricks issince we haven't gotten it here.
I think that I missed year three of this showthe station that was giving it to me, didn'tand now it's on a new station

Re: Kris Marshall
I much prefered the other one. i think the new character is really silly, can't believe in him as a detective at all.
Re: Kris Marshall
I was fortunate that I started watching in the middle of Series 3 Episode 3. Really enjoyed it and after the next episode, bought Series 3 and 4. Because I knew of Ben Miller (a fantastic comedy actor) I wasn't so sure about the first two series, but after seeing Episode 1 of Series 3, I decided to get a box set of Series 1 and 2 and was pleasantly surprised. However his suit and constant search for a perfect cup of tea I found irritating, especially at times the background decried his constant whining about the wish of rain on his face, and there is the rain pouring down in the background, and Dwayne comes in with his wet umbrella.
I also found Camille possible right for Poole but not for Goodman, and the "falling in love" he had felt very contrived, I prefer Florence.
For the US/Canadian watchers let me put a couple of things out there for you, the Police Commissioner character is not as often happens on TV "a token black guy" but a well respected long time actor on British TV, and Dwayne as many of you know is Cat from Red Dwarf. Many British Caribbean countries do employ current or ex British Police offices, and in reality in Britain and especially in the Caribbean colour has no consideration in either the work, or social life.

I wonder if it makes a difference if you watch every week or binge-watch.
When I watched this show the 1st time it was on a weekly basis, so I didn't really notice it, but when I watched several episodes in a row, it got to be very annoying.
