Frank Jenks : Frank Baby

Frank Baby

I loved yer upper lip snarl and I loved the parts you played even when they were only 30 secs. long. I wish you had yer own website so you could be worshipped, but now you are mostly forgotten. Too bad, I catch you when I can. An admirer from far away.

What is the sound an imploding pimp makes?

Almost....but not entirely! :)

I first remember seeing him in Swing Time 7ec even though, as you say, he was only onscreen for about 30 seconds ("Local boy makes bad!"). But when I saw him again in His Girl Friday recently, I had to find out who he was (He played a jaded reporter in that one).

I've got You Can't Cheat an Honest Man on DVD and I'll keep an eye out for him if I can finally bring myself to sit down and watch it (I'm afraid It's a Gift is my favorite Fields film).

Anyway, a "Well-spotted, sir!" is in order for the previous poster, as well as a tip of the fez for tracking Mr. Jenks down and posting on his board. Frank Jenks seems to be the red-headed equivalent of Leo White.

Re: Frank Baby

His Girl Friday is one of the greatest comedies of all time and that group of reporters: Porter Hall, Roscoe Karns, Regis Toomey, Ernest Truex, Cliff Edwards (the voice of Jimminy Cricket!) and Frank Jenks deserve their fair share of the credit. Incredible ensemble comedy acting!

My latest FJ sighting

I don't know how popular a film Friendly Persuasion is, buy you've gotta check it out if you're a Frank Jenks fan.

He plays a carny running a shell game and is hilarious. Whoever cast him in that role was absolutely inspired.

Re: My latest FJ sighting

He played a lot of bartenders and cabdrivers. Reminded me of Murray Alper.

Re: My latest FJ sighting

I often would mistake him for Lionel Stander, owing to a slight resemblance.

I find my solace then in bottles,
And I forget them axolotls.

Re: My latest FJ sighting

He had Bob Hope's nose, they could've played nasal twins.

I was walking down the skyway my way...

Re: Frank Baby

Frank Jenks: distinctive jawline and chin, the wavy hair, he looked like he belonged in a Cagney picture, along with another Frank, McHugh; and maybe Joe Sawyer or Tommy Jackson. He seemed best cast as bartenders, cabdrivers and the like, usually in amiable parts; smalltime guys with heart.
