Goodfellas : Favorite music moments,..

Favorite music moments,..

On a previous thread, some idiot dissed the music that was used in the film. To me, NO ONE uses music better than Scorsese,..some of my favorite moments:

Seeing a clueless Morrie singing to himself, then seeing that shot of DiNiro, while hearing the opening riff of "Sunshine of your love"..powerful stuff..

The climactic arrest sequence that begins with "June 6, 1980"(or whatever the date was)..the chaotic sound of Nillson's "jump into the fire" underscores the kind of day henry is having..

Don't remember the name of the song, but it's the scene where we first see a grown-up Henry & Tommy out side the diner..

So what are yours?

Re: Favorite music moments,..

Speedo - around the 50s/early 60s when Henry is young. Intro to Jimmy and explaining how the mob works.

Then he Kissed Me - I love love love this scene with this song. It's when Henry takes Karen to the restaurant where they don't have to wait and get a table made for them in the front row.

yes I'm a big fan of the oldies but goodies music :)

Re: Favorite music moments,..

Billy Batts beaten up to "Atlantis."

Re: Favorite music moments,..

Then He Kissed Me is a great scene and its one of my favorite examples of Scorsese's excellent skills as a director.

Re: Favorite music moments,..

The shot of De Niro smoking in the bar while "Sunshine of your Love" is played... man, that's the essence of cool right there. And it is my favorite moment, no doubt.

Other favorites:

Young Henry parking the cars while The Cleftones' lovely "Can't We Be Sweethearts" is played.

The Cadillacs' "Speedo" in Jimmy's introduction -- no other song could've been more appropriate for that scene.

"Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals played all the way through Henry and Karen's mesmerizing entrance to the club.

Billy Bats getting beaten to a pulp as Donovan's "Atlantis" is heard.

And last but not least, Sid Vicious' version of "My Way" kicking in in the end credits.

These are all perfect examples of music enhancing the impact of a scene.

You want something corny? You got it!

That little touch of realism, showing some kitchen staff checking Karen out - that whole steadicam shot was a thing of beauty, and of course the song makes it perfect.

Re: Favorite music moments,..

Then He Kissed Me, when Henry and Karen go on their official first date. Layla, when it shows police discovering the bodies of the wiseguys.

Re: Favorite music moments,..

Speedo and Monkey Man!

Re: Favorite music moments,..

My favorite is the Sunshine of Your Love scene. Perfect time to use the expression, "If looks could kill."

Re: Favorite music moments,..

The second half of the song ' Layla ', when we see the montage of Jimmy's victims.

Re: Favorite music moments,..

No mention of Gimme Shelter yet?

Re: Favorite music moments,..

It's already been said, but "Atlantis" by Donovan during the beating of Billy Batts.

I love the shot of DeNiro kicking Batts while you hear (paraphrasing):

"Waayyy back in the Ocean."

Perfect.

Pretend you don't love her - The scene where all of the guys are with their "side chicks" at the restaurant.
