People living at the bottom of the sea in an Ocean Liner,

Scientists experimenting with monkeys in an Arctic laboratory,
Vikings searching for a giant golden bell.
A man who loses his super powers when he sees red,
An Astronaut who lands on mirror image duplicate of Earth,
A lake monster that turns out to be old steam shovel,
And, some movie about a WWII bomber that crashed in the desert.

Re: ***SIGN THE FINAL I NEED TO KNOW GUESTBOOK***
Haha, I was the one (or maybe one of several?) who remembered an 80's movie about a lake monster that turned out to be an old steam shovel.
http://www.imdb.com/board/10091810/
It was called "The Quest" in the US, but went by "The Go-Kids" in the UK, or even "Frog Dreaming" in Australia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_Dreaming
I've had a great time being part of the IMDB community. I loved the "I Need to Know" board because it's given me some great answers, and I loved being able to help out people when I knew the answers too. Some really great discussions took place on specific movie/show boards too. It's a shame they're being shut down. =(

Oh, I'll add a couple:
A teenager accidentally kills a girl and his mother hides him in a hidden compartment in their house.
Two children play with a turtle on the beach but it becomes gigantic when they grow up.

Yes,
Anyone care to solve the other one about the two children playing with the turtle?
Anyone care to solve the other one about the two children playing with the turtle?
"the other one about the two children playing with the turtle"
That was The Bermuda Depths (1978).
What other TV episode had a boy riding out to sea on the back of a giant sea-turtle?
(HINT: the writer also had, on another occasion, a boy headed out to sea on a giant peach.)
"As quickly as you can snatch the pebble from my hand." Honga-Hula!

Re: "the other one about the two children playing with the turtle"
Only thanks to the hint did I know it was one of Roald Dahl's works - The Boy Who Talked with Animals from the The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More collection. So I guess the tv adaptation is
Connie Selleca was extraordinarily beautiful as the adult Jenny.

*** SIGN THE 13TH ANNIVERSARY GUESTBOOK***
by GlennME
Mon May 7 2012 05:34:08
On Friday, May 7th 1999, the IMDb admin, in their wisdom, added a handful of message boards to their Movie Database.
Initially, there were less than a couple of hundred members, and we enjoyed a hectic weekend bumping into, and getting to know each-other.
Over the years, the admin added new features and more message boards, expanding the website to its current size.
It's been thirteen years of, amongst other things,
People living at the bottom of the sea in an Ocean Liner,
A killer who blends in with the wallpaper,
Scientists experimenting with monkeys in an Arctic laboratory,
Vikings searching for a giant golden bell.
A man who loses his super powers when he sees red,
An Astronaut who lands on mirror image duplicate of Earth,
A lake monster that turns out to be old steam shovel,
And, some movie about a WWII bomber that crashed in the desert.
To signify that you were here on the 13th anniversary, please sign this guest book.
Thanks in advance, and all the best,

people aren't going to go through the tedious process
of submitting these answers as trivia or FAQ answers if there's no-one to ask the questions.
You've just summed up the concern of those of us who contribute to the FAQ pages.
When there's no place for IMDb users to ask the questions,
how are FAQ contributors to determine what questions are being frequently asked about a movie?
I'm a frequent contributor the FAQ pages,
but I don't have the time or energy to search the Internet
to find out what people are asking about a particular movie.
Other prolific FAQ contributors have voiced the same thing.
Col says the FAQ pages are going to remain,
but they will probably become stagnant.
As another contributor has pointed out,
only the stock QAs (e.g., Is this movie based on a book?) will remain.
Worse yet, the FAQ pages could become the new message boards,
i.e., IMDb users will start posting their questions there and initiating discussions,
same as the message boards, something the FAQ pages were not designed to do.
Col has hinted in his messages that the IMDb has plans
that they aren't going to reveal right now.
We can only wait with our fingers crossed.

Yeah, we've been doing this for a long time, but I never thought it would come to this.

P.S. I wonder how many kids were permanently traumatized as a result of watching Old Yeller.

Re: ***SIGN THE FINAL I NEED TO KNOW GUESTBOOK***
I'm really going to miss these boards. I've been registered nearly 17 years, but didn't become a regular poster until about 2004. I became a regular poster when I discovered the I Need to Know Board (specifically the "It Doesn't Do Anything, That's the Beauty of It" thread. I kept coming back day after day to see if anyone would solve that thread that went on seemingly forever and I've been here ever since. I still post a lot on this board, TV General and Classic TV, but also love to post on the individual actor/actress boards and the boards for individual TV series and movies. Especially the TV series boards.
I was going through my post history the other day and found that I still have 59 pages of posts dating way back to April 2004 that are still up on the boards.
I've never met any of the posters here, but it does seem like I know a lot of them from all the conversations I've had over the years.
There are a bunch of the current regulars:
Star-Core/St-Ar (I don't remember ever asking any movie/tv questions here over the years, but I've gotten a lot of movie recommendations from some of the questions he's answered for others over the last 10 years)
RIPIMDb (who I usually just refer to as Maj. Steve Austin because it's easier to remember than his "username of the week")
Magpie930
Marla_the_big_tourist
3rd Row Left
ACT I (whose website was always helpful in finding a IMDb user name)
fleur-de-lis
GlennME (who also has a lot of useful info in his board profile)
KillerCroc
MadSimian
mnowl
Hutch 48-2
Watchitmovie
WillEd
and many, many others (a bunch of whom I've probably forgotten to mention .
Then there were a bunch of former regulars who don't post here much anymore (if at all) :
Apostic (who hasn't posted on IMDb in 10 years) (Apostic was the Star-Core of the mid 2000s. He knew all the obscure movies that most people would never be able to think of. I believe he ran a blog or website dedicated to B movies)

EllenRipley112 (one of the first people I encountered on the I Need to Know board when I first started posting here. She still appears here on occasion, but isn't a regular anymore)

when they are stacking the chairs and the barkeep is wiping down the tables with a damp rag. But not this time! I managed to get in while the band was still playing and they were taking requests did that Titanic band take requests, I wonder? "Say, do you know 'Rocked in the Briny Deep'?"
I get a bit of a lump in my throat thinking back over the time between 1999 and today think of the ending of Melancholia (2011), the wind blowing trash across a deserted sea-shore in On the Beach (1959) or (my favourite, perhaps) two strangers kissing as the world ends in Last Night (1998). Now stop that, hutch old boy, you're not dead yet! None of us is dying; it's only that They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar/The Last Laurel (1971).
I'm going to miss the regulars here, including some (like Prophetess) who don't come round much any more or who have died (like the much-lamented Phlicker-, whose pungent reviews you can still find thru the database and whose sigline I have incorporated at the end of mine).
I did manage to meet one IMDb-er in the flesh: sienel, data-submitter extraordinary, came up one year to take in the Toronto International Film Festival and we had the chance to have a nice chat.
Is there life after INTK? Of course there is! It's what we make of it, fellas & gals. I'm going to go thru my (fairly long) list of Friends on here and do what I understand is called nowadays "networking". I'll give out my e-mail and see if anyone wants to engage in, on a part-time or just a sporadic basis, a bit of film conversation. There are also other sites (I'm already registered on IMDB v2.0 = http://imdb2.freeforums.net/ and on the INTK arm of GetSatisfaction, although as willed correctly noted, that seems dead right now) which might develop into something after a sufficient growth period.
Glenn, many thanks to you for sponsoring the Guestbook over the years, for trenchant film wisdom and for gifting me, long before youtube was thought of, with a real physical copy of the Pearl of Great Price of INTK: Sole Survivor (1970).
Hands up anyone who remembers that before star-core and before Apostic (all praise be to him!) there was Morbius-7!
Anyway: rock on, INTK buddies! Who knows: perhaps the Colonel has plans of which we wot naught INTK GENESYS (2021), anyone?
P.S. Just a quick shout-out to Kitty-47, a modest and unsung INTK heroine if ever there was one. She keeps a pretty low profile, but if you are looking for an obscure 70s TV movie, she has a rare talent for hitting that kind of question out of the park.
"As quickly as you can snatch the pebble from my hand." Honga-Hula!

A man who loses his super powers when he sees red -
That's Super Fuzz - or SUPER SNOOPER - which was the title card in the version that my dad used to rent on video tape. I have seen this movie at least a 100 times as a 4 year old.
Btw, I live in the southern most tip of India bordering the Indian ocean.
I can't seem to remember why as a kid I liked it so much. The funny thing is I don't even remember the movie any more. All I knew was I would go with my dad back to the video store to return the tape just so that I could rent it out once again. :P
It's interesting it was there in your post amongst others.
I should really go watch this movie one last time before the boards close and write a board post for that movie. I guess it would be a fitting end to a wonderful 14 years on the boards of IMDB.

On Friday, May 7th 1999, the IMDb admin, in their wisdom, added a handful of message boards to their Movie Database.
And, on February 20th 2017, they will close them down.
It's been almost eighteen years of, among other things,
People living at the bottom of the sea in an Ocean Liner,
A killer who blends in with the wallpaper,
Scientists experimenting with monkeys in an Arctic laboratory,
Vikings searching for a giant golden bell.
A man who loses his super powers when he sees red,
An Astronaut who lands on mirror image duplicate of Earth,
A lake monster that turns out to be old steam shovel,
And, some movie about a WWII bomber that crashed in the desert.
To signify that you were here at the very end, please sign this guest book.
You probably missed the extinction of the dinosaurs you probably weren't on board the Titanic when it sank and you probably can't account for your whereabouts on November 22nd 1963, but when future generations want to know where you were on the final days of the IMDb message boards, you can show them a copy of this thread.
I've met a lot of good people here over the years, and I'd like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for all the good memories.
Thanks in advance, and all the best,
Glenn
