Backdraft : Death scene of the father
Re: Death scene of the father
The entire scene was unrealistic.
For starters, McCaffrey Sr. is an officer and -it's presumed- the officer in command of the engine and ladder truck at the scene. Yet, he goes up the fire escape and enters the apartment to save the kid. Then, he and Adcox start probing for the fire.
His job would have been to co-ordinate the activities of the crews under his command until a senior officer (i.e. a fire chief) arrived on the scene. Then, he could've gone and joined the interior crews.
I presume this was to show what the father's character was like: the cowboy who wants to go charging right in, and is why Stephen is always doing the same thing twenty years later.
