Under Siege : Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

The Captain has arranged the billet as ship's cook for Chief Ryback so he can get his 20 years in and then retire. He's that close to retirement, putting up with working as a cook after all those years of honing his skills as a SEAL, and he's going to screw up his retirement just to punch an SOB like Krill?

It just doesn't add up. I understand it was a plot device to keep Ryback in the galley so he could escape and save the day, but couldn't the screenwriter come up with a more realistic scenario?

Jake: How often does the train go by?
Elwood: So often that you won't even notice it.

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

He wasn't going to screw up anything; the Captain had his back. I think he even made a comment about that.

Krill knew he'd be killing the Captain later, and that the takeover was about to go happen, so this was his chance to give Ryback a piece of his mind (without going too far, because the takeover hadn't happened yet and he was still playing good guy to the crew), so he hocked a loogie in his soup and insulted him.

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

In the situation room when they're discussing his past history, it's mentioned he'd already got into trouble punching a superior officer. So it's not like he's never done it before. He has no respect for Krill and yes, probably does think the Captain has his back.🐭

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

Ryback still had some years to go if I am not mistaken. The commander's in the situation room said he got pissed off and hit his superior during the Panama invasion which was in 1989. This would have been year 3 of 20 before the hijacking and Ryback saving everyone's ass, which probably got him off the hook as a result.

It's been a bit since I gave this a watch so if I'm wrong I apologize.

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

And that superior that he hit was Stranix, correct?

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

I don't think it was Stranix. I think it was just some navy suit who happened to catch Ryback at a bad time. I think Stranix's career had been in CIA/Black Ops, whereas Ryback's was in the Navy Seals. They had come into some sort of contact at some stage, but that was it.🐭

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

Good response, thanks.

Re: Why does Ryback punch Commander Krill…

20 as in 20 years in the Navy. Ryback had served in the Navy obviously for a quite a while, and was probably near a 20 year period, which I guess allows for some kind of special retirement, I don't know, military pension maybe? So it wasn't year 3 of 20.
