A Midnight Clear : Significance of Nicknames?

I realize this is probably a stupid question, but what is the significance of the nicknames, "Mother" and "Father?"


Cartman: Uhh what the hell is that?
Kyle: It's a turkey *silence* his name is Gobbles.
Timmy: GOBBLES!!!

They call him Mother because he acts like their mother, keeping them in line. Father comes from him being a priest.

Well, wanting to be a priest anyway. He didn't actually make it through seminary.

I thought it was because Russia was considered the "Motherland" and Germany was known as the "Fatherland," which resulted in its defeat?

Um, no, they explain it at the beginning of the film.

I know. I got that part of it. I was writing a paper though and I researched it further and that's the explanation I got out of it. I just happened to dig a little deeper than you.

Digging and making stuff up are two different things. I don't mean that nearly as nasty as it came out. I have an English degree, so I was taught to dig for deeper meanings, but what I learned is that sometimes those deeper meanings are not really there. Sometimes English profs just like to make up their own interpretations to seem smarter.
