Schindler's List : Not currently listed as a war film

Not currently listed as a war film

The genre list for this film currently states Biography/Drama/History. Sometimes you have to scroll down to see a complete genre list, up top it only gives the first three in alphabetical order but if you scroll down it gives the complete list in the middle of the page. But in this case there are no more genres listed. I discovered this when I was making my top 25 list for the 1990s, I looked at the side of the page to see the genre breakdown and War had no titles. I first thought I must have overlooked Schindler's list but it was there so I clicked on it and discovered that indeed War was missing. Is it because it's not a combat film? Anyway it may be rectified by the time you read this because I'm submitting a page edit.

Re: Not currently listed as a war film

I don't see it as a war film. As a matter of fact I would be annoyed if I was looking for highly rated war films and came across this. It would be better if more tenuous entries were not included in various genres.

The Film Noir "genre" is the main culprit, there are some pretty ridiculous entries there.

I've seen a film listed as Western because it has a subplot of shooting one in a soundstage in London.

A film taking place in wartime is not automatically a war film.
Schindler's List is even less of a war film than Gone with the Wind and most people looking for a war film would be quite pissed if the end up watching that, I imagine.

Re: Not currently listed as a war film

I've no idea why people find lists & genres so important. Who cares into what genre someone put it? For this & so many other films, the placing of them into one category is an insult to its richness or multi-faceted nature.

If I had to say, no, it's not a war film. Historical drama, perhaps? No matter, the only film category it should be placed in is the one marked 'good'.
