Sinister : one of the best horror movie endings

Say more.

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I would of forgiven a lot of dumb sheit the movie died, the problem is it was one shot too long, if could of been a beautiful ending if it ended around 240 frames earlier, the last scare jump was disgusting, dumb, cheap, boring.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
director scott derickson said the studio basically added the last scare to make it more "fun" and not so dreary. I thought as much before he even mentioned it.
no thought, no reflection, no analysis, no control, no intention, let it settle itself.

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
would HAVE, should HAVE, could HAVE
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I liked the dark ending. The family didn't somehow kill begul or get away like most horror movies.and the dumb cheap scare you're talking about was begul breaking the fourth wall and trying to scare us with this movie "video" it was actually brilliant.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I love it when the fourth wall gets broken.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
Did you actually say the last jump scare was brilliant cos I think you dont hold an informed opinion any longer, if it was already stated that it was an exec choice and not a director choice it means you are just wrong and that was not the plan nor the point. I agree on Roger Ebert on this one, the last shot of your movie is particularly important, he chose a wrong frame, if it was scary movie then maybe it would be ok, and even then jezz you try to make a random cheap predictable jump scare sound like it was planned or something smart, you end up sounding not so smart he didnt scare me and I think it didnt scare anyone cos everyone saw that coming, stop reading on bad shots of a bad movie, if you are gonna obsess over a horror movie try A tale of two sisters or Infection The cabin in the woods you are next it follows etc there are many actual good horror movies out there, apparently youve only seen this one if you are able to give an interpretation to a random bad jump scare.

yoonc..
Totally agree!

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I actually felt the ending almost ruined the film due to its poor execution. I love the film as a whole, but jeez the last 10 minutes or so was just cheap, lazy and poorly put-together.
You have not one, but two long, drawn-out exposition dialog-dumps practically back to back courtesy Deputy So-and-So and the Professor. Sorry, but that's just bad writing and it kills the tone and pacing, especially as earlier the film went out of its way to build atmosphere through a combination of sound and visuals.
Then, the entire ending revealing the children were responsible for the deaths under Bughuuls influence and Ashley killing her family just went on way too long and it got a bit too silly with the wall-painting and the needless "effectsy" appearances of Bughuul, fourth-wall-breaking, etc. It took a creepy concept and made it unintentionally silly by not showing restraint.
Then, the film has to deliver what may be the single most phoned-in, lazy final jump I've ever seen. It was just insulting as an audience member when Buguul randomly flashed on-screen in the final moments. I actually laughed out loud when it happened, because it was so obvious and cheesily executed.
I love the film, but the ending definitely was a big issue.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
It's a silly horror movie it's nothing to write home about, but I did like the ending and the brutality of it. I hate when the good guys win so I liked how the family didn't get away. Yeah the cheap scares need to stop they stopped working in grade school.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
Really not sure what you're talking about. These types of endings that aren't "happy endings" are common now days in horror movies. Gloomy endings have become so common that they are cliche. I rarely see a happy ending horror movie anymore. But then I don't watch a lot of the commercial crap like this movie that they put out all the time in theaters.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
You *beep* people will argue over anything its *beep* pathetic. And give me a name of a movie that's not predictable in some form or fashion. Everything's pretty much been done already most movies today are ripoffs and you dumb sheep don't even know it hahaha
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
Um, if you liked this movie, I wouldn't be calling anyone here a sheep. And most of us are well aware that movies are rip offs from others. Actually, most popular horror films are rips offs from Asian horror, but the original Asian versions are MUCH better. Don't flatter yourself to think you are the only one that knows this.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
More hipster from the Hipster.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
Unpredictable movies that I've seen and liked: Stranger than Fiction, Mulholland Drive, The Witch, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shutter Island, Old Boy, Memento, and (one of the best surprise films EVER) Frailty, to name just a few.
I get that everybody's cynical nowadays, but to completely say that no film has ever had any surprises goes beyond common sense.

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
You sound like some kind of hipster. Gloomy endings are sooooo common now.. Since I don't watch commercial crap (only documentaries, and indies) I rarely see happy endings in horror movies.. really? You should hear yourself. Wow Talk about being full..
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I dont understand how the fourth wall breaking was obvious to people. It never happens and it didnt fit the movie so how did people see it coming?
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
the moral of the story is don't have kids
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
the moral is, NEVER move house, Ever. Just in case
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I liked the film but the ending was too predictable.
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
Enough said?
I'm still waiting for your post about what one of the best horror movie endings was.
Edit:
You didn't mean this movie, did you?

Re: one of the best horror movie endings
And the music was hell :)
Re: one of the best horror movie endings
I disagree. I thought the film was absolutely brilliant, except for the end. I admit, maybe it was too dark and sad for me. Would have preferred some kind of a twist in the end there.
Spoilers coming up!
I know, its a movie, but also I dont find it too believable that it would be so easy to brain wash a kid to kill the whole family. Would a kid her age even be physically capable of that?? I found it disgusting and just too violent. The ending could have had more "style" in it. I just find blood shedding and body parts like that disgusting and distasteful, not scary.
