Ronald Colman : Fans of Ronnie

Ronald Colman is one of my most favourite film actors . I loved his performances in 'A Tale of Two Cities', 'Lost Horizon', 'The Talk of the Town' etc. Are there any other Ronnie fans out there who love wathching his films as much as I do?

I've seen him in The Talk of the Town and A Double Life, and Ronald Colman was terrific in both of those movies. I hope to see many more from him.

Had a wonderful speaking voice. His Oscar for A Double Life was really a lifetime achievement award.

The Prisoner of Zenda is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's a sad thing that he's largely forgotten these days.

Just saw Mr Colman in one of his last movies "Champagne for Caesar"-nice to see how well he could do comedy.Colman had the charm,and acting skills to keep the audience sympathetic to someone who in the hands of another actor might have come over as insufferably conceited.I concur,his Sydney Carlton in "A tale of 2 cities" is masterly-the final scene at the guillotine,and the "far far better thing" speech would have pleased old Dickens himself.

I like him best in A Tale of Two Cities.

Granted, that's the only thing I've seen him in, but I just really like him as Sidney Carton :D.
So tragic, so sympathetic, he's such a powerful character, and they got the best actor to play him.

It's a shame he's no longer with us....he died a good forty years before I was born.

Ronald was one of the best actors ever. He had a penetrating voice, eyes that conveyed every emotion under the sun, and a great talent that is rare amongst actors today. I prefer English bred actors as they are much more trained in the whole aspect of acting as a finely tuned art, unlike the spoiled American actors of today (just my own personal opinion though).

Every time I watch an RC movie, I wish I had grown up in that time...

I'm trying to get hold of as many of his movies as possible and must say that in each one he displays his fine,flawless acting skills.Please watch The Devil to Pay- a wonderful light comedy-,The Light that Failed,Beau Geste (1926) or Lady Windermere's Fan.The first one I've watched some 25 years ago ,If I Were King, is still one of my favourites because of the great dialogues.So keep on 1354 watching these movies.They are worth it.

I like his films,especially A Tale of Two Cities.I've seen it 12 years ago,I still remeber it with fondness and joy.

I list him among my favorite actors. He was so charming...I fing myself beaming while I watch his movies. "Random Harvest" is my favorite film of his, though "Lost Horizon" is the first film I actually 'noticed' him in.

I came across some old letters that were kept in a closet of my father's house that was written by my grandfather while on a mine sweeper in the Pacific during WWII. These were letters that he wrote home to his family detailing how he was doing....mostly, what they were eating and how some of his buddies were doing. But, my grandfather's love for movies showed dramatically as he often wrote of the movies he watched while on the ship. He wrote to his parents how his favorite actor was Ronald Colman. This was something I never knew about my grandfather and being a huge fan of movies myself.....I made sure to begin watching as many Ronald Colman movies as possible. Quickly I became a huge fan and can truly see why he was my grandfather's favorite. What a huge underrated actor he has become in this day and age. He definitely was one of the best and I hope more people in my generation (who like older films) get the honor to watch him perform. I'd have to say that Lost Horizon and Random Harvest run neck and neck as my favorite R. Colman films.

My guess is that the fans of Colman number in the 100's of thousands.

It's so nice to see all these comments about Ronald Colman. I loved him and William Powell when I was a kid and when the BBC actually used to have an interest in classic cinema and used to show their films amongst others. Then for years, I forgot about them until the internet played a large part in making some of these great films were more accessib 5b4 le and it has been a great pleasure of mine to not just collect films of Colman but also memorabilia. The thing that really stands out for me about Ronald Colman when you look into the actor that he was, he more often than not played decent, honorable men with a great deal of integrity and this was, without exception, how he was viewed in real life. His daughter speaks of when he was wounded in the first world war he crawled backwards towards the trench so that if he died, he wouldn't be facing away from the enemy. He really was a special and charismatic man who had a real life resemblance to the character of Robert Conway in Lost Horizon. William Powell is also a great favourite of mine, and I would encourage anyone to get the box set of the Thin Man films for a starter as they are just perfect. To come back to real life and see people like Tom Cruise masquerading as stars after these real gents of the screen, is quite depressing in all honesty.

I love Ronald Colman too...I'm always a sucker for a an actor with a beautiful voice, and his was awesome, plus he pursuade to believe anything his charecters were doing in his movies, no matter how silly. My favorites are Prisioner of Zenda and Tale of Two Cities.

God Bless Ronald Colman. I still remember reading TALE OF TWO CITIES in 8th grade English Class. Our teacher gave us the assignment of watching ToTC over the weekend. I remember thinking, "A movie...great, no book report!". I was 13 then, and I'm 57 now. I still cry at that voice.

Ronald Colman made that book live for me. When Carton begs the little seamstress to keep his secret, she asks him why. He gets that wonderful, thoughtful "Colman" look, and quietly says "He's my Friend..."

Would that we all had friends like that...

I could watch him all night. I think he's sexy. You can keep diCaprio, Clooney, Timberlake, all the so-called attractive leading men of today. They don't have a tenth of Ron's elegance and acting ability.

Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.

Um, one or two.

Ronnie? Um..okay. I've never heard him called that. I am a big fan of Mr. Colman. Today, 8/4/2001 is Ronald Colman day on TCM. I'm a happy camper. Especially since they're showing a few of his silents.

joyce-miller3-1; Under-rated by today's generation, but a first class actor. Never phoned it in. Wished they had selected some other films too fill the day though. Have seen LUCKY PARTNERS (1940) and MY LIFE WITH CAROLINE (1941) more then enough. Would like to have seen BEAU GESTE (1926), THE WINNING OF BARBARA WORTH (1926), UNDER TWO FLAGS (1936), THE LIGHT THAT FAILED (1939) or CHAMPAGNE FOR CAESAR (1950) instead.

They did though include some rare silents, that were very enjoyable, but THE STORY OF MANKIND (1957), that was just a extended cameo and not a Colman film. That's like JOHN PAUL JONES (1959), was not a Bette Davis film with her five (5) minute stint as CATHERINE THE GREAT.

What can you say about Ronald Colman that hasn't already been said? His eyes were so expressive, and the voice? Well.....the eyes AND the voice can make the toughest guy tear up! It always does in "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Random Harvest".....and let's not forget "The Light That Failed". Such a wonderful actor. As an aside, having just watched "Tale", Isabel Jewel gave such a touching turn in her small role, and it only made Colman's even more touching.

I've loved his films of the 30's and 40's, especially for that elegant voice. I just watched him in his earliest silent hit...and what a treat! I didn't even miss the voice because his performance was so good, and he was even better-looking then...I remembered watching it that I used to confuse him with John Gilbert, and I can see why. The resemblance in this film was remarkable!

Ronald Colman really was the Gentleman of the Cinema.
