Re: Rate the three films
First comes 'Red' closely followed by 'Blue'. I wasn't that intrigued by 'White' however.
Re: Rate the three films
Red - **** - easily one of the best films I've ever seen.
Blue - **** - easily one of the best of the year.
White - *** 1/2 still great though!

Re: Rate the three films
Yeah, I watched all three yesterday. I thought Blue was ok, it just seemed like he was trying to distance Julie from the audience. It was a great idea, but it kind of stopped me from actually feeling anything for the movie.

Re: Rate the three films
Red >> Blue >> White
At first, I liked "Blue" most, but now I'd say "Red" is best. To me, "Red" is visually stunning, very open to interpretation and somehow full of magic. It's certainly one of the best films I have ever seen.

Re: Rate the three films
It seems to offer a little more hope than the others. Just my opinion.

I am tempted to put red at the end, i just didnt like it as much, sorry, Blue made me cry, the score to that movie was SO FREAKIN' GOOD! It made me feel soliquidy inside(I dont think that liquidy is a word but im sure you get what i mean) and i loved the growing of her characters throughout the film.

Re: Rate the three films
Red and Blue were easily the best, they were both the most compelling. White was easily the worst, it was good but compared to the others it was very boring and I know it was intended as a dark comedy but i just did not find it very funny. It was well acted though especially the lead actors performance, which was excellent.
Re: Rate the three films
Red 10/10
Blue 9/10
White 8/10
All wonderful, it seems a pity to have to rank them, and they work best if watched together.

Blue was a great introduction to a brilliant trilogy. Red wrapped it up nice, but the imapct wasn't quite there. All three were beautiful and probably should be rated as one.

Re: Rate the three films
On mondays I tend to rate them Blue, White, Red.
By the time it's wednesday I'm in a bit more of a comical mood, and go for White, Red, Blue.
By the weekend I'm normally at Red, Blue, White.
Impossible to decide.
The real problem is deciding who I'm the most in love with: Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy or Irene Jacob or Kieslowski himself.

so many people seemed to love red i didn't. too explicative. so yes, my favourite is
white
then
blue is a ver good film and juliette binoche a terrific actress
red is really not so good (i feel).
if you've loved red, watch la double vie de veronique. it's far more intriguing and irene jacob is stunning (i'm not saying she can act!). it's a beautiful film.

Red.
It's hard to rate, but I loved White in many ways hence it goes to the top, followed by Blue for its melancholy and Red is superb too, but the coincidences just made me think about the other two movies.

Re: Rate the three films
Red and Blue are both brilliant and haunting in their own ways.
White is distinctly average and looks as if it was made by a different director.

Re: Rate the three films
Honestly right now White is my favorite. I like how relatable Karol Karol is going from a guy who was controller by the woman to gaining control of his life and the woman crawled back to him practically. It was the film I was most engaged with. I would put Red at 2 and Blue at 3.
Re: Rate the three films
Re: Rate the three films
I watched all 3 last year and have watched Blue and White in gaps over a few months so need to see Red again.
White was a lot better second time around but at this point in time I would still say:
1) Red
2) Blue
3) White

Re: Rate the three films
1. Blue - By far the best cinematography and frame composition in the series. Absolutely beautiful movie. And by far the best score in the series, too. This one's about mood baby!
2. White - Shakespearean in the way it handles Karol's tragedies with subtle touches of dry comedy. It seems to say "Life is *beep* but ain't it fun anyway?" I LOVE the ice-skating scene with the bottle of vodka. Very life-affirming. This is Kieslowski's most underrated movie.
3. Red - Jacob's performance is outstanding, and the character of the judge is flawless. One of the best paternal characters in any movie. I thought Auguste's character was very undeveloped though, and I'm mixed about the ferry accident that resolves the characters from all three movies at the end. I thought a more understated connection between the films would have been more appropriate, whereas that scene kind of slaps you in the face. Also, how did Karol and Dominique end up together again? I could have used a little clarification there.

When I first saw them,I think 'Blue' was my favourite, but the more times I've watched them,'Red' has definitely become the one for me.When I watch them I tend to watch them all together (either all in one day or over a couple of days) but 'Red' is the only one that I've ever watched on its own.Just to confuse matters,my favourite actual scene from any of them is in 'White' (when Karol and Mikolaj are skating across the frozen lake,"Anything is possible!").which probably just goes to show that really,I like them all equally.

Re: Rate the three films
Difficult, but at the moment
1) Red-the one I watched most recently so it's freshest in my mind. So many beautiful details in this film to appreciate each time. Love the camerawork and the repeated elements throughout. Breathtaking music.
2) Blue-haven't seen this one for a while but I remember how beautiful and affecting I found it. Some people say that it is hard to sympathise with Binoche as her character is too distant but I found Binoche's grief really well portrayed. That scene where she drags her hand along the wallOh, and the music in this was just glorious too.
3) White-this one just didn't emotionally affect me the way the other two did. Although the black comedy in it was a nice departure from the the intensity of the other two films and there were some brilliant moments, for instance quebecstation mentioned the skating across the lake scene which I loved.
I m very grateful to Krzysztof Kieslowski and everyone involved for these films. They are wonderful.

Re: Rate the three films

Blue
Blue just didn't engage me at all. There were plenty of thought provoking moments, great performances and the whole thing was beautifully done but it just didn't really strike a chord with me. Perhaps the world of music being dealt with and the magnitude of the tragedy Binoch's character had to deal with were too alien to me.
Red and White on the other hand dealt with the theme of lost love in a much more recognisable way and provided stories that were much more original and thought provoking as a result.
White just edges it though for it's somtime similarities to "The Velvet underground" song "The Gift;" possibly the best story of unrequited love there is.
I really think though that when put together and watched over a six hour period (as I just did) there is no need to rate them individually as in total they are a masterful cinematic accomplishment and compliment each other beautifully. The last scene, far fetched and all as it might have been, was really a perfect swan song for the trilogy. Does anyone else feel sorry for the English bar man who never makes an appearance? Perhaps Mr. Kieslowski was making a subtle jibe at English attitudes to Europe. Overall though, no wonder Kieslowski never intended to make more movies.
