one of the best versions i have heard of it, although im sure if Mandy Patinkin's character had had the chance to sing it properly his would have been magnificent beyond belief. The song is however written for a woman as it is sung by the character Fantine in Les Mis and the version I attached is from the 10th anniversary concert which was the Dream Cast so she is prob the best you will hear singing it :)
Oh little bruva pleas refrain frm doin that Im tryn 2 help you out so can u stop being a twat

Re: What was that song???
OMG, I would so love to have a recording of Patinkin performing that song. If they ever release the series on DVD ~sigh~
Re: What was that song???
My my, a little Googling and YouTubing turns up all kinds of things.
Here's the clip from episode 1.2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=I3TokD0MwRY
However, I also remember Patinkin's character singing the same song, or perhaps a different one, to his wife in a later episode. I remember it as a party at the mental institution where she lived, with everyone all dressed up, and Patinkin under a spotlight singing to his wife. A beautiful, touching scene. Anyone else remember that?
And, here is an extraordinary resource for Patinkin lovers. The Chicago Hope Song List (http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/6025/songs.html) lists all or most of the songs that appeared on every episode. For Patinkin (and maybe others, I didn't look), in many cases it lists the name of his albums on which those songs appear. In particular, the page says "'I Dreamed a Dream' by Mandy Patinkin (can be found on his album, Experiment."
