To Die For : cant watch nicole kidman

dont know why,but she ruined the movie for me, i wanted to watch for joaquin,but nicole is unwatchable to me.wish they those a different actress

I think it is one of her best performances.
That doesn't keep me from fast forwarding to the prison interview. That's where I start the film.
I don't need to watch her anymore. I can watch his performance repeatedly.

A side note.Joaquin has said he doesn't do comedy. I think he has done many hilarious and sly scenes. He's got great timing.

I think Nicole Kidman is one of the best actresses of her generation. Whenever I see a pic or read of her I recall how Joaquin played his first role as an adult with her in Gus Van Sant's "To Die For"

I found her endlessly watchable! This part was offered to Meg Ryan originally but she turned it down. Fun to watch Nicole out Meg Meg! Every Meg mannerism is done perfectly with just that extra edge to let us know that Nicole is as delighted with her performance as we are.

It's the movie that made a me a fan of Nicole's.

I agree. She's great in this. Every movie she has done sense lacks the dark humor that made me fall in love with Mrs. Moretto.

Nicole Kidman is one of my personal favorites, and I think she is superb in this film.

I like the movie and Kidman looks absolutely gorgeous in this role. The entire cast was good I thought.

It cemented her as a favourite for me too, after seeing her in Bangkok Hilton and Vietnam (made for Australian TV), this confirmed for me how great an actress she is.

Ha,Meg Ryan. That's the one I was half consciously thinking about. Fits.
Ryan also did a sort of left handed version of Kidman in Addicted to Love 1997.
This one has solid writing credits which we don't get to see that often. And Addicted also has that kind of framework to build on. Helps to be a New Yorker for it. Die is more middle stream but same idea of twisted people.
Both actors have a wide range and pick solid vehicles whice is why people stay with them, they deliver. Who had time for the burn outs we've gotten lately. Flash in pan once realize that yes this is it just more of the same. film after film. The good ones find the strong scripts and crews then make it happen.
The name cameos alone is a tip-off to the reach this project had.

Nicole was fabulous in TDF, one of her best roles.

i agree with wowcharlie and the others - this is the movie that made me a fan of her as an actress.

I was a fan of her as an actress when I saw her in Dead Calm, but this was the performance that convinced me that Nicole was one of the best actresses in the business and would one day win an Oscar. And while her film's haven't always been hits, I think, looking back from today back to To Die For, Nicole's proven to be one of the most versatile and talented performers of her generation. That she's ridiculously hot (more so with red hair, in my opinion) has only been a bonus.

Another Kidman gem is Birthday Girl.

She was brilliant in this film! I wasn't so sure about her acting range beforehand, but I saw this and she really struck me. Deserved an Oscar nomination.

You are wrong! Her performance is MEANT to be wooden. That's her character, she's fake! She's acting the whole time, she's a talentless social ladder climbing bimbo. That's why it's so wonderful, Kidman is excellent at it. She's calculating and her character is devoid of any real emotion or empathy, she's like a walking Barbie, and it's meant to be that way - except for those few moments where she exposes her real self.

Its Phoenix whos difficult to watch - the most overtly one-note and extreme slackjaw Ive seen outside Mike Judges Idiocracy. Yet not nearly as funny as the characters in that film.

he is also. and i usually love him. this whole movie sucked. matt dillon cant act imo. bad casting all around. except that italian girl.

I've never been enticed to watch movies with Nicole Kidman. I only watched this one because of Matt Dillon and Joaquin Phoenix, with some curiosity about Casey Affleck's contribution.

I never understood my aversion to Nicole Kidman, though, until I saw this film. In fact, I've always enjoyed her performances and admired her acting abilities, and I don't know of anything about her personal life that would cause me to dislike her.

But when I saw her portraying Suzanne Stone Maretto as a ruthless, not-so-bright narcissist, it dawned on me that she bears a very strong physical resemblance to someone I used to know many years ago who was very much like this character.

So the mystery is finally solved after all these years. And on a personal level, this is one of the most unnerving movies I have ever seen.

i cant believe how many responded to my little comment months ago. i dont care for joaqs performance either. idk the whole movie is just creepy. but NK does remind me of my sister in law.maybe thats the problem ? lol

I agree with op. She is unwatchable in everything I have seen her in and this movie is no exception.

This is one of the only films I can watch her in - Joaquin certainly doesn't hurt though :)

I actually thought she did a great job on this film.

She won the Golden Globe for this one.

Nicole is a terrific actress. The only thing I found near to unwatchable was how blindingly evil the character really was.
