Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoiler)

No way!!

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

I think this would be genetic testing to see if Aleeah carries the gene. I don't think they are necessarily testing her to see if she has MD, but rather to see if she carries the gene and could potentially pass it on to her children.

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

Since Ali presented in infancy, this genetic disorder (supossedly TTN gene limb girdle MD), presumably wouldn't remain asymptomatic in Gracie for seven years and counting. I do think this is merely to get data on the family.

Now, in the clip Leah said she, herself is already a carrier. If she's right about that. Gracie may be too. If this was not spontaneous, Corey and Leah both carry the gene; when they both pass it on, a childAlihas it. When just one parent passes it on, the child is also a carrier. As rare as this is, there is very, very little risk Ali or Gracie (if she's a carrier) would pass it on. (They'd need to have a child with someone who is also a carrier, and this has barely been observed n medicine.)

I imagine screening Gracie is to gain more insight into this condition, particularly for publishing.

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

I'd say you are right about it being for research. If it was just to test for a gene Leah has then they'd probably want to rest Addy as well. Possibly Remi too if Corey is a carrier as well.

However it could be part of a twin study then they'd only need Gracies results.

Well sometimes I have the feeling I can do crystal meth, but then I think, mmm better not.

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

True, although many people remain asymptomatic until well into adulthood.

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

True enough. I was reading that limb girdle MD can present differently within members of a family, although the gene causing Ali to be so affected before age one and asymptomatic in Gracie all these years would be unlikely. Nevertheless, as rare as this is and with little literature, it's so tough to predict anything.

I certainly hope it doesn't happen to both. The odds should be 25%, so hopefully Gracie is in the clear. tchele brings up an interesting point. I wonder if the family will be published, especially because they're twins.

Re: Sneak Peak: Doctors Want To Test Aleeah (Gracie) for (possible spoil

I agree, it's fascinating. I too am hoping Alleah is in the clear and I believe she is.
