OT: Sad Glenn Close fan

Yes, I am a sad fannot just because the boards are closing, but because when they close, I will no longer be able to discuss things with my fellow movie fans. And I will no longer be able to vent, sometimes we all need to vent and sometimes it's nice to vent to strangers, so here goes

I was dismayed to find out what a rude, dirty mouthed girl Glenn Close's daughter is. Something I like about GLENN CLOSE is that she doesn't get overtly political at least not most of the time.. But, that hasn't stopped her daughter from having completely no filter and no respect for different people's points of view, or how they might feel.

For example, how she behaved when finding out about a fake Glenn Close account on Instagram was telling See:

https://twitter.com/AdryClokie/status/733373569485438976

I know using expletives for everything is trendy now, but it's not nice especially when the account creator could have very well been a genuine fan who was trying to honor her mother, but just went about it the wrong way. So, instead of lashing out and trying to make that person feel bad by saying "get a f-ing life!!" she should have been a lot more kind, and left the nastiness out of it, and just said "I'm sorry, but my mother doesn't have an official Instagranm account. This was probably made by a misguided fan." There was no need for her to get nasty.

When learning about the nastiness of the offspring of my favorite stars, it makes me disappointed in the star that I love because I would expect that person to teach manners to their child.

Look at how she tags her video here, with the finger emoji AND a cuss word:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BQHmstwBq3_/?taken-by=anniemstarke

I certainly hope that her daughter's attitude is not reflective of Glenn's attitude. Because I've always liked the fact that Glenn seems to be a little more understanding than most. Not quite on par with what I would like, mind you but better than most. Or, at least better than quite a few.

Anyway, her daughter also has the customary "anti-Trump" post on her Instagraham page. And as if it isn't bad enough that she publicly comes out and blasts the president, she shows a total disregard for the feelings of his voters, seen here:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BP1bPwVhBaW/?taken-by=anniemstarke

Also note her *beep* tag in this picture-post:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BOhYFtuhiFK/?taken-by=anniemstarke

Can you understand my frustration? I just worry that it's reflective of Glenn, and if it is, it makes me disappointed in both of them but more heartbroken about Glenn, because I've always thought better of her. I'm sorry she's related to such a rude person! She's ridiculously rude, and I think an embarrassment to her mother (I hope Glenn cringes in horror every-time her daughter posts her rude things)!

P.S.
I STILL mostly prefer Glenn over Meryl though!

I am very glad to hear that Ms Close's daughter - like most intelligent, concerned and insightful people, is anti-Trump, and I have huge respect for her having the courage of her convictions and the strength of character to come out publically and blast the vile, sexist, racist orange-haired creep who has - sadly - become President of America (or, as he is now more commonly known, America's "Predator-in-Chief" - thank you Jane Fonda for coming up this spectacularly apt description of the awful ogre Trump). Clearly Glenn has brought her daughter up to be a proud, strong, opinionated woman who is not afraid to speak out against bullies and braggards). Good for her.

she shows a total disregard for the feelings of his voters

Anybody who was stupid and short-sighted enough to vote for Donald Trump does not deserve to have their "feelings "regarded.

Of course, as the blundering, booming Trump continues to confirm our worst fears, many of them have now realized their mistake, have buyer's remorse and are hanging their heads in shame. No American President before Donald Trump has ever had such a high disapproval rate from the American public this early into his presidency and its not surpring people have taken to the streets to protest against him.

Let's just hope he is voted out of office at the end of his first term.

There is not much time left on these boards, so why don't you stay away from stars personal lives, and politics. That is their private business. The movies they make are our business. Glenn Close has appeared in some interesting films lately (THE GREAT GILLY HOPKINS and THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFST - both of which I enjoyed). Have you even seen these films?

Hope you enjoyed Meryl Streep's brave, empassioned dressing down of Donald Trump (for his cowardly, bullying mocking of a disabled reporter) at the Golden Globes as much as I did.

The OP was undeserving of your reasonable and logical reply Mr Cody. He/she was probably the author of the fake Glenn Close account in question. Why else the vitriol?

Okay, did you not notice the date of the tweet with the screenshot that I linked to? It's a pretty old post! If I was the "author" of the fake account, don't you think I would've came out upset about it before now?

No, I'm not the author of it any fake account. I'm just disappointed to learn that the daughter of somebody I admire is so rude. Plain and simple.

Why? Because there are very few places to go in this world (or online) where people are genuinely kind and nice where rudeness is always avoided. The Internet has made it more and more prevalent, and everyone seems to be getting worse and worse with it.

The people I admire and hold in high esteem, I naturally assumed to be somewhat like myself, and I would never respond that way. So, that's why it's sad for me, because I can't even escape the rudeness from the people I admire! That's all. Should be pretty easy to understand, instead of trying to turn this into some kind of "troll scenario".

(smile emoticon). You are probably right OldAussie, but I am an eternal optimist. Even though I remember MyMovieTvRomance quite well, and she has always been a wee bit strange; to put it mildly.

You should have seen what she once posted about Isabella Rossellini; now that was really, really weird. I guess lonely people create vivid fantasies about actors, building them up in their minds as not who they are, but the people they (the fans) want them be. It's such *beep* and it really shows that they are fans of "stars", not films. Because when I see a film, I want the actor to convince me that I am watching a character they are playing, not the star.

You have been a relatively quiet, but always interesting and sometimes amusing low key presence on this board OldAussie. I've enjoyed you, and I like your politics.

Take care, be well and keep watching movies Old Aussie - the last part of 2016 has produced some fascinating films and you can look forward to watching them in the months to come.

Gee, thanks! You know, you have a way with people, don't you? I bet you were one of the good kids in school, letting the outcasts at your table, never picking on anyone, always offering a smile and a hug I'll bet you were so nice! I mean, just look at how nice you are about me when I just came here to share something on my mind. A true gentleman, you are!

So, because I essentially said she was attractive and bragged about all her good qualities, saying that I would like to have someone in my life like her, that was weird? Sorry, but only a weird person would think so.

And I enjoy your underhanded jabs at people very amusing! By bragging about how much you enjoy old Aussie, you are essentially saying you don't enjoy me. By replying to him and speaking about me in your reply to him, you are essentially doing a little something called "being a backstabber".

What a fine example you must set for all the young people in your life or do you even have any? Nieces, nephews, children? You must have particular fun with the adolescents, since you're essentially an adolescent yourself, completely lacking in maturity and decorum. Have fun with your fellow backstabbers!

I'm glad you enjoy the politics of old Aussiebirds of a feather flock together and better him than me, because I wouldn't want to be anything like either one of you!

You may think you can judge a person by what thry say on these forums, but you can never know who they really are.

But I digress. A sensitive and kind friend on this site told me some things about you. It seems you have had to cope with some horrific trials in your life. When he told me these things I wept, and hated myself for being harsh and sarcastic to you on this on this thread. I deeply regret hurting you and if I could take back what I said I would. Please forgive me and accept not only my sincere apologies but all the love, sympathy and empathy I have in my heart.

If you would like to PM me and discuss this further please feel free to.

Take Care

PS. There are things in this post that I have said whci are incredibly personal. So I might delete parts of this post after you have seen it.

Well, that's why people should always strive to be nice to each-other. Anyway, I don't know if you mean it, but if so, I accept your apology. Thanks.

I certainly mean it Romance. Glad you accept.

Hope you aren't offended if I seal it with a kiss.

Re: OT: Sad Glenn Close fan

I have huge respect for her having the courage of her convictions and the strength of character to come out publically and blast the vile, sexist, racist orange-haired creep who has - sadly - become President of America
You know, a lot of people felt that way about Obama at one point, and I'm sure you wouldn't be proud of them for having the courage of their convictions even if it did take courage for them to stand up and say it, you would probably wish they would sit down, wouldn't you? You would probably say that some things are better left unsaid, and that they were troublemakers, wouldn't you? Same goes for anti-Trump speech.

In fact, I will go so far as to say that at this point, blasting Trump publicly takes no courage at all it just takes a "cattle mindset", thinking like all the in crowd, and that if you really wanted to have bravery, you would make an effort NOT to publicly come out and shame the president, or, you would flat-out come out in support of Trump publicly, despite the backlash from people like you. Both of those scenarios THAT'S BRAVERY not doing what everybody thinks is cool at this point.

And even when Obama was in office, it seemed to be a general rule that anybody who came out against him was ousted and marginalized online and elsewhere. Nobody seemed to applaud their "courage of conviction" and "bravery" when in fact, it takes much more bravery to come out against somebody that the mainstream likes than it does to come out against somebody that the mainstream enjoys hating (which takes no bravery at all).

Glenn's daughter was an Obama supporter, by the way bragging about him all over her twitter. Glenn, by contrast, is much more reserved and doesn't put anything pro or con on her Twitter page or her Facebook, as far as I know (which to me, signifies that she tries to respect her fanbase a little more than the average celeb). And when asked about the Obama White House once, I remember Glenn saying something like "I've grown very cynical of all politicians and I would rather not say much because I don't feel it's my place and I'm very careful".

Very careful, yeah Her daughter certainly didn't inherit that "careful" streak. But at least Glenn seemed to have not been a fan of Obama at least near the end she wasn't in a "cattle-mindset" it seems.

Anybody who was stupid and short-sighted enough to vote for Donald Trump does not deserve to have their "feelings "regarded.
I completely disagree. As I said in another post:

I saw a post of someone who wasn't a fan of Donald Trump, and they had this to say: "Donald Trump is just wrong. Sad but true. I will pray for him though."

That's the line of someone who doesn't want to hurt anyone including Donald Trump. That's the line of someone who wants to let the world know that although she doesn't agree with this man, she also doesn't wish him ill.

What I don't like about so many anti-Trump activists and social justice warriors is that while claiming to be such humanists and humanitarians, they go out of their way to lambaste and hurl insults at people they hate. And I'm sorry, but that's just hurtful, if you put yourself in the other person's shoes it's hard to imagine how they survive that! It's very hurtful indeed.

A lot of people think liberalism is a disease, or you might think that Donald Trump has a disease of mind or soul, but shouldn't you pity someone with a disease, instead of taking pride in their humiliation? That's what I don't like from her daughter, she seems to want to publicly shame our president, and thereby cause him pain. I don't understand anyone who thinks that way. She doesn't have to like him at all, but she can take a gentler, softer, more merciful approach. Because the next person who is hated may just be you or me and I know we would hope that people would be merciful to us. I know that Glenn's daughter would hope that people would be merciful to her. Yet, she shows no mercy. And that's sad. s sad.

The thing is, people only know how to be how they are. So, for us to keep throwing stones at Trump really is cruel, because he is being the only way he knows how. We don't have to like him, but we don't have to revel in his downfall either. It's just cruel especially when one thinks they are better than him if you are, prove it by acting better. And I don't see that from anti-Trump people.

Not yet, but thanks for the recommendations. I do hope to see THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS soon.

I really did not, as I am an independently minded Trump voter, and don't take my cues from what other people think and I happened to think that she was wrong on several counts. But thanks anyway. I'm sure she meant well, I just don't happen to agree with her.

Re: OT: Sad Glenn Close fan

It's so often dissspointing to see

Re: OT: Sad Glenn Close fan

Thanks for the reply, and I'm glad you agree.

I'm surprised how many fans have replied to my thread on other parts of the board, shocked at my taking the fan's side in the regard of the Instagram case. They assume, because I'm taking the fans side, I must be the creator of the account. But that's faulty logic. I'm only taking the fans side because as a fellow fan, I know how painful it would be to have the daughter of somebody I admire come out and tell me to "get a fuc%ing life!!" I mean think about it that hurts. And as movie fans, we should all feel the sting of that statement, because for some of us movies and the stars are our lifeor maybe the only joy we really have in life! She basically put us down, and made us seem like we weren't worth anything.

I maintain that the fan was probably just misguided in their attempt to form a tribute to her mother, and the decent thing for her to do would have been to just clear the air and say that her mother didn't have an official account, and if necessary, to politely ask that the account be removed. But she didn't do that instead she insulted the fan, and made them seem like they had no real purpose for living! It's very sad, if you think about it.

So again, I'm surprised at the amount of fans who have taken her side in this case, and not the side of a fellow fan, as I have done. Knowing that the offspring of one of my favorite stars thinks that her fans have no life that's really sad, that really hurts. And, it shows a PROFOUND lack of respect and compassion on her part!

Do the people who voted for him have any feelings at all, other than those best situated in the negative column? Are these snowflakes in need of a safe place? My advice to them is a phrase of their own, all too frequently used in the past year:

"Suck it up, buttercup."
