Actually Hebrew is a race. Most Jews are of hebrew ancestry.

Reading the trivia section won't help because it just lists the countries his ancestors emigrated from. Hebrews lived in europe, but that does not make them european racially. If that were the case, gypsies would be polish or Ukrainian, not north indian.

Genetic studies show that jews are mostly middle eastern (hebrew) with varying levels of mediterranean (greek, italian) ancestry.

That is why so many jews from europe have dark features like Jeff Goldblum. Because their ancestry is middle eastern, specifically hebrew.

Not all middle easterners are arabs. I am Hebrew, most Israelis identify as Hebrew. There are also Arameans, Assyrians, Kurds, Persians, etc.

What you are implying would be the same as saying Persian is language, not a race, even though it is spoken mainly by persian people.

I always thought even from back in Jurassic park times that he looked Indian, I thought he is the most famous Indian actor on the planet! Apparently after reading it just now he is not Indian at all.

There are Jewish Indians (Jews from India) actually. There are several groups.

Many Indian Jews are Baghdadi Jews, meaning they originally migrated to India from Baghdad, Iraq, and descend from the world's oldest Jewish community, the Babylonian Jewish community. Many moved to England, America and other areas.

They have some aspects of Indian culture in their lives, but are racially Hebrew (levantine), and look like most other Jews from around the globe who are of ancient levantine origins.

A famous one is former Indian General J.F.R Jacob who looks just like Ariel Sharon in this pick.

There are also the Bene Israel community, the Bombay/Mumbai Marathi speaking community who are mostly of native Indian descent, although they may have some ancient Israelite genetic origins. Many live in Israel and speak Hebrew along with Marathi.

They tend to look like other Indians and do not resemble the Baghdadi jews in terms of phenotype or genotype. They cluster with other Indians moslty.

There is also a third group called the Cochin Jews who speak Judeo-Malayalam, which is basically Malayalam with some Hebrew loanwords. It is not written in the Hebrew script though. They are basically Indian converts as well. Although again, some of their ancestry may trace back to the northern israelite tribes. They look Indian.

And lastly there are the Sephardic (Western European Jews) of India. They spoke Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language written in Hebrew characters. Sephardim are racially levantine in origin like Ashkenazim and Baghdadi Jews. They resemble most Jews, not Indians. They were sometimes called "White Jews" by the native Indian Jewish population.

I would personally say that Jewish is a race all to its own. If you wouldn't agree to hat then you undoubtedly believe that all Middle Eastern, Arab, etc. people are Caucasian. When the lines get that blurred you can pretty much render it down to nothing more detailed than "human." Jewish is a religion, but it's also a race! I have three children that are half Jewish in race, but 100% Christian in religion. If not for that delineation their Jewish lineage would all but have vanished!

Lauren Cohan is of English/Scottish ancestry but raised in the Jewish faith. Did her "race" change from Caucasian to Jewish due to her religious upbringing?

Same question applies to Sammie Davis Jr.. Did he cease being of African descent and turned into a Semite/Jewish race when he converted to Judaism?

You are confusing Judaism/Jewish by religion with the jewish/hebrew descent.

The two people you mentioned are northern european and african american that converted to the religion of the hebrews/jews, judaism.

Most 'Jews' are jewish by ethnicty (including athiests)and by religion.

Genetic studies show that jews are racially middle eastern and mediterranean, hence Goldblum's palestinian/israeli looks.

Most Jewish people are of semitic origin, just like gypsies are of northern indian origin, despite living in eastern europe.

You obviously didn't like my previous post which was very polite. I don't understand why you posted that when I actually agreed with what you said about the definition of white.

Read what I said again. I was simply pointing out that nobody claimed 'judaism' was a race. 'Jewish' does not mean 'Judaism', and it certainly does not exclusively mean one who practices the hebrew religion of Judaism.

Yes. He is Hebrew, which is an ethnicity from the middle east. Many Hebrews settled in europe (spain, germany, and russia). They are still hebrew though. That is why so many jews look middle eastern, and besides genetic studies prove common hebrew lineage among jews of various cultural and national backgrounds (North Africa, Syria, Europe, etc.)
