Twin Peaks : Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
I do think that without her character (and Josie and Johnny) who interacted with Laura in her final days does hinder the film.
Really?
I don't find it hindered by their absence at all. Had Lynch film scenes with them it would have been left out like scenes with Truman, Andy, Hawk, Mr & Mrs Heyward, Josie, Pete and Ed.
Would it have been great to have them in the film? Sure. But I don't think it detracts from what the film was about at all: the last days of Laura Palmers life the important stuff. Not just a rehash of what we are told from the pilot crammed into the film just to show us "oh this is what is looked like when she gave Josie a lesson and spent time with Johnny."
David LOVED coming back to Twin Peaks and he apparently said that if the new episodes are liked and well received, he would definitely come back for more Twin Peaks.
Probably too much to hope for, but it's great that he feels that way.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
Yes but only hinders it marginally. The only reason I say that is because it was Laura's final week, and we know she interacted with those characters that week. I think it would have added more texture to her life since all we are shown are the dark disturbing elements. And from the show we know she had some lighter moments before her death that week . She tutored Josie, she spent time with Johnny and Audrey didn't like Laura as we know from the series so her absence is felt. All of the characters you mentioned - Andy, Hawk, Mr & Ms Heyward, Pete, Ed did not have a close connection to Laura nor did they spend time with her during the last seven days of her life.
And the scenes may have been cut just for that reason - time or they wouldn't have fit in to the dark story DL was telling, but it would have been nice to have them as deleted scenes now.

As regards deleted scenes, I'm sure you're aware of the nearly 90 minutes of deleted scenes available now for FWWM. Some of the deleted scenes put into the film would have worked great, others not so much. To that end, a deleted scene with Laura, Doc, Eileen and Donna Heyward would have fit nicely into FWWM. That scene would have more than emphasized Laura's impending downfall and as Bobby screamed at her funeral how everyone knew the direction she was headed but refused to help.
Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
Yep I've seen those deleted scenes and agree!

Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
I didn't listen to it, but when she said Lynch felt he needed more "time" for the show, is she saying he felt that he needed more episodes than the nine they had originally talked about, or needed more time to prep?
It's hard to imagine Lynch being "furious" or screaming at anybody. I've only read one report of him even getting mad, on the set of "Dune" when somebody painted on a prop.
I haven't watched the majority of season 2 since it originally aired, but I agree that that middle section, after the reveal, was dreadful (the Diane Keaton episode was the worst). Then it picked up in the last few episodes. In fact, I recall that episode 25 (which James Foley directed, who also has "Fifty Shades Darker" coming out) was when it turned around.

Agreed. The Diane Keaton episode is absolute garbage. The rest of the show is ruined from that point.

Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
I vaguely recall reading about that in the book "The Making of Dune". I think it was during the shooting of a scene that was deleted. Someone painted on a box prop or something that Lynch already had how he wanted it, and he got angry. Then I recall reading that he chastised Patricia Norris for swearing on a set, even though his films are full of swearing. Sherilyn Fenn just said recently that he chastised her for tweeting, so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe his on-set behavior is different than we'd assume since he appears to be such a "peace" guy. Don't know.

Re: Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
Disagree with a couple of things - Season 2 picked up for me, until the Diane Keaton episode, which marked the end of the show since it was horrible. The remaining episodes are junk remnants of wackiness. Also, John Justice Wheeler's "romance" with Audrey was some awful stuff. It also helped bury the show. Tacky and beyond cheese.
Really interesting interview with Sherilyn Fenn on a Podcast
It was about an hour I think and some bullet points that stood out:
*She was very talkative about how much Lara Flynn Boyle ruined the storyline between Audrey and Cooper and she went int o some detail. She said she went to David Lynch and said "so is that how its works around here? Actors can dictate story?" She seemed quite upset in retrospect. I know this info has already been out there, but it was very enlightening to hear her speak about it. She said that Kyle would never admit to his then girlfriend LFB ruining it, but now he does agree that happened.
*She dressed Audrey in her own clothes and David Lynch ruined her antique pink cashmere sweater by having wardrobe stretch it to make it tighter on her.
*She didn't have fond memories of season 2 and felt abandoned by David Lynch. And said his absence is why season 2 is a mess. I personally don't think its a mess until after Laura's murderer is caught. And then there is a stretch of pretty mediocre episodes but the final 6 episodes are outstanding. I would say that only the middle section of season 2 is really the only mess.
*She said the relationship with Jack Wheeler towards the end of season 2 just didn't work and that Billy Zane was really nice, it just didn't click. I again don't necessarily agree with that. I thought there was some weird mystery about to happen with his character and was interested to see where that lead.
*She said she was not in FWWM because she was already contracted to do Of Mice and Men and at that time in her life, she was very happen to be doing that film and not FWWM. She felt she had done really well as an actress to have landed that part. She did say that David Lynch was furious at her and screamed at her "there is no film without Audrey!" I wonder why he didn't recast the part or why she and they couldn't have agreed on a schedule to film her scenes in one weekend. I do think that without her character (and Josie and Johnny) who interacted with Laura in her final days does hinder the film.
*And the most telling part was about the new series of episodes. She went into some detail about how it was stalled b/c David and Mark originally wanted nine episodes, but when David was planning and prepping the preproduction he felt that he needed more time and more time means more money. He wanted 18 episodes to tell the story and Showtime balked, David walked, and then the cast started to bail. Then we now know that everything was negotiated and got back on track.
She and the other actors were never given any scripts - they were only given the portions of the scripts that contained their characters so they don't know anything about the rest of the story - only what their character is involved in.
She said that David LOVED coming back to Twin Peaks and he apparently said that if the new episodes are liked and well received, he would definitely come back for more Twin Peaks. She noted that David Lynch has been known to change his mind so she couldn't promise more, just that he said that.
She talked about her kids, her faith, Boxing Helena, and other topics as well.
