Doctor Who : Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

Being a more of a Classic Who fan, Im still very much engaged with NuWho. However I am NOT a fan of the idea that the show could/should go on indefinitely as other fans suggest. At some point I feel the show should end with closure. However I understand why some fans would like the show to continue.

The Character of the Doctor is like the base player Chris Squire of Yes. Since 1968, the band Yes has had 18 members. Chris Squire (the bands Doctor) is the once consistency each Yes album had. Similar to the Doctor Who (the show), the band Yes has changed and evolved with its surroundings (fashion, political climate, music influence etc). Similarly, Doctor Who (the character) and Chris Squire have also changed with their surroundings to accommodate their survival (no pun intended if yes fans picked up on that). These changes for the Character are based on how each actor portrays an incarnation just as Chris Squire may slightly change his music style based on the various song writers he is working with. And both may pander to certain demographics of fandom.

Furthermore, Chris Squire is on record for suggesting that the band Yes is larger than him and can evolve as an art medium. Meaning it can continue without him or the other 18 members. Heres an excerpt from an article:

Squire goes one step further though and reveals, in a very Gene Simmons-like way of thinking, that after over 40 years as a performing unit he believes that Yes could evolve into an entity like the London Symphony Orchestra, with different players. There could still be a band called Yes in 200 years time. But presumably, the band members will be different.

As much as Id hate for Yes to continue without those that feel made Yes, Its not my band and they can do with it as they please needless to say. Same with Doctor Who. I do not wish the series to be watered down and saturated (as Star Wars is with all the cartoons, movies, books etc).

YES???? NO!
nowhere close to the longevity of DW, You want longevity, try the Stones!, Keith Richards has regenerated more times than the Doctor, how else is he still alive?

Re: Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

I'd argue that YES has more longevity than Doctor Who, at least to date. They may have formed a few years later, but Doctor Who had a hiatus of 16 years (albeit with a single TV movie sandwiched roughly in the middle of that hiatus).

Re: Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

Well said.

As long as we keep getting wondrous stories, and from time to time they are close to the edge.

Re: Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

Didn't Chris Squire die two years ago?

did he regenerate ?

BalotelliAguerooooo! I swear you will never see anything like this ever again!

He did, and that's the point. The Doctor 'dies' as well, but the show/band could keep going according the showrunners/musicians.

I personally hope neither does.

I saw Rick W last autumn. Small theatre. Just him and a grand piano. Was superb.

Re: Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

I envy you. What did he play?

I got into his music in the 1970s - King Arthur, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, No Earthly Connection and (much later) Time Machine.

At college in the early 1980s I was friends with a talented singing lady. Her band was taken under Rick Wakeman's wing in the hope of getting them a contract, but it never came to anything, alas.

I never cared for Yes. I don't think I like this comparison.

Re: Doctor Who can be compared to the band Yes

You don't have to like them. However they feel their band is larger than them or it's current members.
