Horror : Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

News that it has cancelled principal photography stage. Even the movie board on here has gone. I wonder what went wrong. I guess we won't see it.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

That's fine by me if Breck Eisner was going to be the one directing it. They need to get someone from the independent world, more of a fan type instead of some slick technician whose career was started because of his last name. While they're at it, get another production house other than Platinum Dunes to handle it.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

They need to ignore the previous reboot other than being a number in the franchise and make Friday the 13th Part 13 in the snow complete with the cheesy title intro from the first 2 movies. A complete retro slasher with steadycam used ONLY for POV shots.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

People keep talking about wanting to see a Friday the 13th involving snow. I agree that seeing Jason walking through the snow would be a cool visual, but what else can you do with the plot? Why would there be people at a summer camp in the middle of winter?

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Kids driving by experiencing car trouble? What other reason can there be? That's standard plot.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I guess it's that when I think of snow I also think of the cold, and the cold isn't sexy. I want girls in bathing suits, not winter coats.

I'm not saying it can't be written. I'm just questioning some of the logistics of having snow in the film. That's all. A summer camp is not insulated for winter conditions, and that poses a small problem to overcome.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

If I wrote it the teens would be crashing the summer camp since it is off season and the cabins are there for the removal of clothes, each couple getting one to themselves more or less. One of the girls will figure skate on the frozen Crystal Lake and the guys will play hockey, numerous things to do. Gotta have a scene of the blood splatter all over the snow. For me horror films in the dead of winter are precious and for some reason rare.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

You know, it would be nice to have Jason chase the FG over a frozen Crystal Lake only to have him fall through the ice.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

It could be sexy with girls with big tits under a fur coat by a hot fire place in winter

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

No, no, no. I refuse to allow any more big-tittied gals in my Friday movies. Do we have to keep retreading the same old, worn out story? I want a fresh new approach. If them titties are too big for an A cup, they just won't do.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Why would Jason be in space? Wacky stuff.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Do you seriously want a return to the wacky Fridays? Not me, personally. I don't need a Friday the 13th to be completely serious, but I would like the new film to be on the rails rather than off.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Crystal Lake frozen, grabbing people through the ice and pulling them down, blood spatter I guess across snow.. what not to love?

You can come up with plenty of reasons to go to a lake in the winter. We've already seen vacationers there, the camp hasn't been open for most of the movies. And a hot tub in the winter is definitely sexy and dangerous.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Why would there be a hot tub at a summer camp?

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Cabin dude. Vacationers. I already said that. Keep up.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Come on, man. I'm just having some fun. I know a slasher film doesn't need logic. And besides, you didn't actually mention anything about a cabin.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Figured it was pretty well implied by 'vacationers' if you've seen these movies.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I've actually never seen one past the first one, so my apologies for not inferring correctly.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Really? Interesting.. do you care at all about a 12th offshoot then? I probably wouldn't in that scenario.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I'm just joshing. Yeah, I've seen all of them multiple times. I grew up in the '80s, and Friday the 13th is my favorite horror franchise.

I don't like the reboot. It starts off well. I really like that first group of characters, but the film loses some of its fun when the new characters are introduced. The film also just doesn't "feel" like a Friday film to me. Not enough POV shots, the music is all wrong, the camera doesn't move right, and the structure is all over the place. And Trent just makes the film unbearable to watch.

As you pointed out, very few of the movies are actually set at a summer camp, and that's why I would love to see a return to that setting, even if in the snow. That's what I've had on my mind, which is why I inferred incorrectly that you were talking about a summer camp earlier. Besides, if a bathroom and a bed can exist in a high school in Slaughter High, then I don't see why a hot tub couldn't exist at a summer camp.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Gotcha. I'd be cool with the summer camp setting too, but I like the idea of Crystal Lake in winter time. Whatever idea they come up with as an excuse is fine.

There's a web series that did this already, called Jason Xmas by ScaredStiffTv Not exactly a studio production, but pretty fun.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

They could be going to a cabin to party out in the wilderness. I live in the northern midwest. People do that kind of thing.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

there are some camps that take place in winter

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Jesus Christ, did we really need another one anyway?

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Yes yes we do. Jesus Christ would definitely want a new Friday the 13th film. I'm positive about that.

Besides, that's like asking, "Do we need another movie at all when we already have tens of thousands of them?" No, we probably don't, but if new movies are going to be made, is it such a hardship to ask for one Friday the 13th movie every few years? I personally don't think so. Those of us who like the franchise get to enjoy a new installment, and those who don't don't have to watch it. That's a win-win, isn't it?

Cute pussy cat, by the way. I'm usually on a mobile device, so I don't get to see user's avatars.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I think he means another reboot.

I'd love a continuation of the original series. Hell, even a sequel to the crappy 2009 remake would be better than another all-new remake.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I don't want a remake either. I don't need the new entry to be in continuity with any previous entry. Just have some kids in the vicinity of Crystal Lake and I'm good.

Why is that so hard? I could write a script in a week. Surely an experienced screenwriter could write a script over a weekend. The formula for a Friday film pretty much drives itself.

1-2 pre-credit kills (or as I mistyped, pee-credit kills, which would work too)
Credit Sequence
Act 1. Introduce 5-6 new characters. Include banter. Have them working on something or involved in some project.
Act 1 intersplices. Introduce 1-2 characters to be killed off in their only scene.
Act 2 (Page 28). Start killing off the main cast. Include sex and nudity.
Act 3 (Page 65). Final Girl discovers that all her friends are dead. Engages with several cat-and-mouse scenes with Jason.
Coda (Page 93). Scene leaves possibility that Jason isn't dead.

Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to write, but maybe I'm wrong.

and thats why you are not a scriptwriter. no big worry though. the world needs ditch diggers and some to pump peoples gas

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

No, I meant another Friday the 13th film.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Oops.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

I keep hearing its because the new Rings movie failed. But I feel like ANY Friday the 13th movie would be better than a Ring movie O_o. So I hope that's not the real reason since I think the films and their fans are pretty different.

The answer is in the question

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Wouldn't surprise me. Instead of blaming it on the quality of the movie, they'll decide to blame it on the public not wanting horror movies anymore, or something along those lines.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Not that disappointed, based on what I'd heard about it. They were going to go back and make part of the film about Jason's childhood. The same approach they took with the Halloween remake and I didn't care for that at all either.

I wonder what they had it budgeted at. Thirty million maybe? Wouldn't surprise me. They should just go back to the series's roots and do it really low budget, for a few million, and make it trashy and gritty. Give it to some young and hungry newcomer who appreciates the genre to direct it.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Not a big deal to me if it doesn't happen. I love the original series but I don't really need to see another Jason film.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

Considering Platinum Dunes, a generic director, and the people behind the remake are behind it, I hope it stays in development hell until PD loses rights to produce it.

Re: Friday the 13th 2017 reboot

It has been pushed to 2019 now.
