Car 54, Where Are You? : Difference in the car

Difference in the car

So, apparently for a bonus question on my digital photography midterm, we're gonna be asked what was the difference in the car and why didn't people at home notice itso does anyone know what was different about the car and why people didn't notice it?

Re: Difference in the car

Too easy. It was painted red and black, unlike real NYPD cop cars which were black and green back then (I remember them, lived in the 71stPct and 100thPct.)
Red shows up as black when not filmed in color.

Re: Difference in the car

I seem to remember hearing about this at the time and one reason for it was so they wouldn't be confused with real police cars.

Re: Difference in the car

Where I live we only had black and white TV until 1975.

Re: Difference in the car

It doesn't matter, the show was always in black and white. The car only showed up red in real life or in publicity photos.

Re: Difference in the car

Actually a real New York PD car would've been green, with a white roof and trunk and black fenders (or just the bottom parts painted black). The car on "Car 54" apparently is missing the black fenders, just "green" (red in real life but gray on the actual show) with a white roof and white fenders. I believe the NYPD logo is also missing from the door.

To see how they actually look, check out the older police cars in the Al Pacino film "Dog Day Afternoon." It was filmed just as NYPD was phasing into a new white-on-blue color scheme you may remember from the early years of "NYPD Blue."
