Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
A lot of people thought that. The 1964-65 World's Fair was basically a prediction of Jetson World (except for the flying cars): total modernity, universal prosperity, and, presumably, no more war.
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
To be fair we do have the 'moving pavements' in airports and some malls!
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
It just struck me that everyone in Jetson's World was white - at least I think so. Were there ever any non-white characters? It's been a long time since I've seen the show.
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
I was watching it the other day and I had the same thought, but I'm not sure if I've seen them all there might be a single non-white character thrown in somewhere for an effort in late 1960s political correctness!
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
I haven't seen any episodes in about forty years (I suppose that's a good thing?). Anyway, they were mostly made in the early and mid-1960s, when the idea of "racial balance" hadn't really taken hold on network TV.
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
the race card doesn't apply with Hanna-Barbera, because characters to a back seat to the plot so they could figure what their budget would allow them to get away with. the necessary budget conditions for the animation to meet the par of say Warner Brothers wasn't available to them until the late 1980s and then a truckload of black characters showed up because plot no longer had to be the primary concern
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
The future will be like the Jetsons, even as we speak scientists in Japan (i read an article about it and i think it was in Japan, Americans are too dumb to do anything anymore) recently started designing a flying car prototype, so yeah eventually it's coming.
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
I always thought it would be like this and the year 2015 in BTTF II, boy was I wrong. Things actually seem to be getting a lot worse across the board. We are less like The Jetsons and more like Children of Men.

Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
Considering that The Jetsons was set in 2062, 100 years from the time it was made, I guess it's still possible that we'll get our flying cars on schedule. We still have a little over 50 years to go.
Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
Let's hope we can still get there

Re: i thought the future would be like the Jetsons
It is becoming more a "1984" or A "Fahrenheit 451" than "Jetsons". And it is scary.
