"Wild Rovers" gets my vote. I love the horse-breaking scene in the mountain snow, and the great outdoor cinematography. It also has a great music score by Jerry Goldsmith. A highly under-rated movie. Happy to finally have the widescreen director's-cut DVD from Warner Archives to watch whenever I want.

excellent topic, wanted to ask the same question.

The Wild North with Stewart Granger (doing a somewhat bizarre French-Canadian accent). Great snowy atmosphere. And a wolf attack sequence very similar to the one in JJ. Better, maybe.

The Far Country with Jimmy Stewart is all Yukon-set.

Also, the first 20ish minutes of Seraphim Falls. If only the whole movie had been set in the snow.

Andre deToth's Day of the Outlaw with Robert Ryan. Fantastic snow setting, beautifully shot.

I guess this post was waiting for The Revenant to happen. :)
