Big Trouble in Little China : Is this even a film?

I think it transcends being a movie it is so good but I can't describe why, it's not like it has better qualities, that would mean that films could be compared to it, it's like it has a different quality that no other film has, I like it so much I don't even understand why but I have never loved any other film or tv show like it

I think one of the reasons it is so unique is because it starts out normal enough. Lone trucker with no family. His friend's girl gets kidnapped and he wants to help. Then little by little, it becomes more and more surreal until it's an outright fantasy. You don't see too many films like that. For most movies, the transition is black and white, very clear cut and easy to spot.

another thing that it does is, we start out thinking Jack is the hero and gradually we learn he is inept and completely clueless, but a staunch friend who willingly goes into a crazy situation and through his one specific talent kills the bad guy
