Re: Le Samourai with even less frills and car chases

I revisited THE DRIVER last night and was riveted throughout, just as I was the first time. Great minimalist crime thriller, punctuated with jarring bits of action and violence. The comparisons between it and Melville's film are obvious, and have been discussed since its release, but Hill's movie always struck me as being the more viscerally affecting of the two (even though LE SAMOURAI is the more intellectually engaging one). Sorry you felt it fizzled out. I, on the other hand, will likely watch it again before the year's end.

Re: Le Samourai with even less frills and car chases

Big Hill fan and also revisited last night. Love good crime fiction and it really hit the spot. The shots and atmosphere of gritty late 70s LA are pretty unparalled. Besides by Hills other movies. It is also a pretty well written crime story by itself.
