Mama's Family : Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
NBC Naomi for all the reasons you mentioned. Syndicated Naomi was usually just annoying.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
Naomi's high pitched yelled in the later years kind of cracks me up.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
I prefer Naomi on NBC. I prefer everyone on NBC--they were all smarter. Expect perhaps Mama, who was less worldly on NBC. I have a theory that Dorothy Lyman started to use that whiny voice in syndication because it was practically the only way she could laughs--the writers were not giving her much to work with. Mama got ALL the punch-lines.

NBC Naomi. Syndicated Naomi acts like she lost all of her brain cells.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
She was 'funnier' during the syndicated seasons, but was more...I dunno...admirable/real during the first few seasons.

Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
NBC Naomi was the only character in my opinion who could stand up to Thelma mano a mano

Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
everything about the syndicated series is better. i act like the NBC episodes don't exist.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
I think the NBC Naomi was hotter too. Her teased up hair in the syndication version just made her look goofy.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
I thought she was funnier in the syndicated version. More serious and boring (as the show was in general) during the NBC years.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
I think the writing was better in the NBC shows. It wasn't more serious or boring. There were some pretty bad clams in the syndicated show- more bad episodes in there than NBC. Like the one where Mama plays a detective. That was awful.

Season 2 was its best in terms of hilarity.
Naomi started to tease up her hair in season 2 as well (not as much as the permed doo for syndication though).

I'll have to pick NBC's Naomi, also I loved her long straight hair.

Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
Yeah, absolutely NBC Naomi. Almost all things NBC were superior, except the teens. Bubba was a trade-up. Iola wasn't bad, but Naomi (and Vint) became more like cartoons in the syndicated years.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
NBC Naomi was prettier and much less annoying.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
NBC Naomi. In fact, I greatly prefer NBC Mama's Family in general.
Re: Do You prefer NBC Naomi or Syndication Naomi???
I just adore Dorothy Lyman and Naomi but I prefer her straight hair instead of the curly hair

In the NBC years, Aunt Fran was originally created to be the antithesis of Mama and storylines would centre of them going head-to-head.
Producers felt Aunt Fran as Mama's rival wasn't really working. She was elderly like Mama, from the same upbringing, so eventually they'd run out of issues to argue about.
They brought Naomi in the mix to give Mama a rival that wouldn't go stale. She's from a different generation, which means she could bring more progressive ideas ideas to the mix, such as different ideas on sex and men, much to the dismay of Mama's conservative traditional values (sort of like a Mike Stivic/Archie dynamic). She's also from a different social class, and being a new character with no ties to the family, she could bring up issues in future episodes without conflicting the continuity.
The NBC years, she was more reserved. The syndication years lost Carol Burnett, the complete wackjob, and the only real huge blow to the syndicated years. As a result, to compensate for this loss, Venton became dumber, they added Viola and Bubba, and Naomi became more shrill.
Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window.

Syndication Naomi was no fun but a crybaby, loud, that voice and she was "extra" about everything. Her hairstyle didn't even fit her face LOL. She kinda stuck by Vint but not as strong as the NBC Naomi would have. Mama threw out more insults at her and Naomi rarely had a comeback. Season 3 you see a little bit of that old Naomi(when her and Iola would make wise cracks to each other over Vint) but it was slowly but surely written out.
Who do you choose and why????
