The Golden Girls : The jacket and the lottery ticket

The jacket and the lottery ticket

I know that this is TV and so they have to do blatantly boneheaded things to advance the plot, but the episode where they have a winning lottery ticket that gets placed in the jacket they accidentally donated always bothered me.

They tracked down the jacket, but in a split second Michael Jackson's bodyguard claims it first. Okay. "Excuse me, sir. I'm the one who donated this jacket, and you're more than welcomed to it, but I may have left something in the pocket. Would you mind if I look for a second?"

Simple as that. I know that we then wouldn't have escalated to the homeless shelter, where they had their 'very special episode' segment, but still

Re: The jacket and the lottery ticket

Actually, the scene in the homeless shelter was an epiphany for the Girls.
They realized that their own selfish desires regarding the lottery winnings meant nothing when faced with people in true need.

I wonder how much the money would have helped the shelter.
Of course, $10, 000 went a lot farther when this episode was made than it does today.

That was always my thing too. And to make sure he didn't take it for himself, I'd say something like 'my breast pump', etc.

Yepthis was listed in the Most Hated Episodes thread, and for good reason. LOL

Re: The jacket and the lottery ticket

I agree. It would have been better if the girls had absolutely NO chance in getting a moment with the security guard. They had more than enough time to ask to get a personal belonging in the jacket that they donated. Their forced stupidity in this episode was a struggle to watch.

However, the point of the episode was to highlight homelessness. And in the end, they were never going to keep the ticket.

I find the episodes where the girls have an opportunity to win/earn a large sum of money but they get somehow get screwed over extremely frustrating to watch.

Agreed. This one the episode with the arrogant painter who is about to die, but Sophia saves before they could get one of his paintings and sell it.

The worse one was when Blanche got her hands on $50,000 worth of St. Olaf war bonds, that would allegedly bankrupt the town if cashed in, and so she rips them up as a gesture of friendship to Roseonly to learn that the town had emergency money horded away. THAT would have been enough for me to kick Rose out.

Re: The jacket and the lottery ticket

Grab that dough when they cheated themselves out of a new car but with 4 people how would they do that

Re: The jacket and the lottery ticket

The whole ep. is stupid. From sleeping in a lobby then going on Tv. To the dumb questions asked in the game.
